From the Toby Files
May. 20th, 2009 02:09 pmSeriously, I need a few more Calvin icons. Because my kid IS Calvin.
1.) Toby was talking about his in-laws the other day. I told him that he doesn't have any yet. When he's much, much older and if he gets married, then he'll have in-laws. "Oh," he tells me, "I'm not getting married for a long time."
"Good," I say, determined not to make my child believe that marriage is absolutely essential to happiness and that singledom is evil. "Because that's okay. Mommy just wants you to be happy, whether you get married or not."
"Oh, I'll get married. When I'm thirteen."
::headdesk::
2.) Toby also has imaginary friends. At current count, I believe there are four. Astol and Astae (he named them himself) hang around with us the most. Astol is the best buddy, and he looks, dresses, and talks just like Toby. Oh yeah, Astol and Astae also have a baby brother that's like Trevor. Bana shows up every now and then- he was pushing me on the swing today. And Gangya likes to play in our basement. As my husband says, can we increase the number of tax deductions?
3.) A new word has apparently been added to the English language: plumey. "That was plumey!" Toby declared.
"What does plumey mean?"
"It means when you throw it, it sparkles."
It's creative enough that my kid is making up words. But he keeps using "plumey", and always in the same context. I don't know whether I should laugh my ass off or be really, really impressed.
4.) We went to the park today, and then went to McDonald's for lunch. For any of you other mothers out there, this is probably an unremarkable treat. For me, this was a miracle, because I didn't have to bring any food. My boys both ate chicken nuggets, Trevor ate some of the French fries, and Toby drank chocolate milk. They were giving free sundaes with the happy meals, so Toby had part of a sundae, and I got one for myself and Trevor to split. It was amazing.
5.) I rewatched part of Razor the other day. I have to admit, I kind of really, really like Belzen.
Okay. Back to frantically writing!!!!
