From the Toby Files
May. 20th, 2009 02:09 pmSeriously, I need a few more Calvin icons. Because my kid IS Calvin.
1.) Toby was talking about his in-laws the other day. I told him that he doesn't have any yet. When he's much, much older and if he gets married, then he'll have in-laws. "Oh," he tells me, "I'm not getting married for a long time."
"Good," I say, determined not to make my child believe that marriage is absolutely essential to happiness and that singledom is evil. "Because that's okay. Mommy just wants you to be happy, whether you get married or not."
"Oh, I'll get married. When I'm thirteen."
::headdesk::
2.) Toby also has imaginary friends. At current count, I believe there are four. Astol and Astae (he named them himself) hang around with us the most. Astol is the best buddy, and he looks, dresses, and talks just like Toby. Oh yeah, Astol and Astae also have a baby brother that's like Trevor. Bana shows up every now and then- he was pushing me on the swing today. And Gangya likes to play in our basement. As my husband says, can we increase the number of tax deductions?
3.) A new word has apparently been added to the English language: plumey. "That was plumey!" Toby declared.
"What does plumey mean?"
"It means when you throw it, it sparkles."
It's creative enough that my kid is making up words. But he keeps using "plumey", and always in the same context. I don't know whether I should laugh my ass off or be really, really impressed.
4.) We went to the park today, and then went to McDonald's for lunch. For any of you other mothers out there, this is probably an unremarkable treat. For me, this was a miracle, because I didn't have to bring any food. My boys both ate chicken nuggets, Trevor ate some of the French fries, and Toby drank chocolate milk. They were giving free sundaes with the happy meals, so Toby had part of a sundae, and I got one for myself and Trevor to split. It was amazing.
5.) I rewatched part of Razor the other day. I have to admit, I kind of really, really like Belzen.
Okay. Back to frantically writing!!!!

You win at mom-ery.
Imaginary friends, omg!! (I had two dragons- Thunderbolt and Pancake.)
Can I steal 'plumey' or do I have to pay royalties for it? X3

Go ahead and steal plumey. (I actually used it as a call sign for a pilot in A Lot to Live Up To!)

Plumey makes me smile. "When you throw it, it sparkles." Awesome. I made up a word that meant "to throw rocks." Apparently I liked throwing rocks? Do you have anything that sparkles when you throw it?
Back to work! I expect an update on Friday! ;)

We don't have anything that sparkles when we through it, but I'm betting he'll be using it when he throws rocks in the creek!
And the update is off to the beta! :)

Date: 2009-05-21 01:40 am (UTC)Why do you like Belzen? Not that I don't think he's likeable, I'm just curious. He doesn't have that long before he becomes little more than a puddle of blood on the floor of the Pegasus CIC...

Date: 2009-05-21 12:11 pm (UTC)You know, that's a good question. I was watching the Razor parts though, and the guy really has some charm. He seems like he was actually a good balance to Cain before she went off the deep end, and he's got a great smile. Plus, I know what he did in my universe, and I love him for that :) And okay, he's really pretty cute ;)

Heh. This reminds me of when I was in first grade and I asked my teenaged babysitter once what grade she was in. She told me twelfth grade, and it boggled my mind. I couldn't even imagine being that old and achieving that grade in school. :)
My boys both ate chicken nuggets...
I'm so glad to hear that Toby's eating status continues to improve. I remember how bad things were only a few months ago. You had me at "went to McDonald's for lunch."
His imaginary friends sound awesome. What intriguing names he picked out for them! They sound like people who live in space.

He cracks me up all the time.
LOVE your icon, btw!

Date: 2009-05-21 02:35 pm (UTC)And remember, Calvin was a very smart little boy. Your son might grow up to be smarter than Toby Ziegler and that would be terrific!!!!
