Partly a GIP- I have a pretty new kid icon! I loved my Sirius-baby Harry icon that
nassima made for me, but my boys are past babies. I like this Titan A.E. one, especially until I can find more Calvin. (I also need to think of some good fictional brothers. You know, ones that actually got along and had happy endings? Suggestions?)
I am TOTALLY procrastinating writing Chapter 8 of Dee-Hoshi. This chapter is kicking my ass. It's one of those chapters (much like the last one) where the main plot point is kind of subtle, in that it involves personal relationship stuff. I feel like it needs more action, which I'm not sure it can get right now. This is the problem with bridge bunnies. (BTW- I read a fic from 2005 the other day, and much to my surprise, there was the term bridge bunny!) Everything I keep coming up with, like stuff with Dr. Robert, or Cylon attacks, or anything involving Starbuck... none of it really fits into this chapter. (Well, the Cylon attacks do, but the bridge bunnies basically get to run around shouting orders.) I have all kinds of ideas for the next one. This feels like my A Disquiet Follows My Soul chapter, in that it's some set up for what happens in the next one. But it's necessary setup, and it ties chapter 7 and chapter 9 together and links the two events. Basically how Lee went from where he was in 7 to where he'll be in 9 and making it more complicated and organic than just "Kara decided to talk to him again so he dropped Dee like a hot potato."
It does not help I took Midol last night. I had no idea the stuff makes you drowsy. Apparently, it does.
I'm starting to get nervous about
bsg_remix. Not about my own fic, but just hoping that people are enjoying doing it. I think you're always going to have some people who loved their assignments and others who were disappointed. I'm also a LITTLE nervous, because of the 38 fics we're expecting, 9 are in. But it's also only June 17, and the deadline isn't until June 20. I expect that there will be many, many more on June 19 and 20 :) This is also why posting won't begin RIGHT away- so if we need to get pinch hitters, we can.
I need to get moving on my regular remix, too. But not today, because I should be writing Dee and Hoshi today. Okay, Liss. Half hour left in naptime. WRITE, DARN IT! WRITE!

Date: 2009-06-18 04:15 am (UTC)You do ask the fun, tough questions.
This is *surprisingly* hard. The best example of fictional brothers that comes to mind are from comics, actually. Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Tim Drake/Robin. Tim absolutely worships the ground that Dick walks on, and has done so since the age of about 3. (It's possible that his first happy memory is Dick giving him a hug at the circus.) And even though Tim is a fantastically qualified superhero, Dick will still beat the crap out of anyone who hurts his "little brother" (which is how he usually addresses Tim.)
Of course, they're both adopted. And they weren't raised together. So they may not count. Roy Harper/Red Arrow and Connor Hawke/Green Arrow II aren't as close, but they are friendly and do consider themselves brothers (and are in a similar familial position to Green Arrow as Nightwing & Robin are to Batman.) This is assuming that Connor is both alive, and has his actual personality back. (Comics canon! Making the weirdest shit of BSG look sane since roughly 1938...)
Scott Summers/Cyclops and Alex Summers/Havok! They're actual brothers, and they do get along at least 50% of the time. Of course they weren't raised together - it's the whole thing with their parents dying (except dad didn't and went off to be a space pirate...it's a long story.)
The best set I can think of on tv were on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Quark and Rom. Both aliens, both gave each other lots of annoyance, but were very tight by the end of the show. I'm told the brothers on the tv show Supernatural are very close, but I don't watch that show. Maybe Nathan and Peter "They're Italian" Petrelli on Heroes? Recent events on the show notwithstanding....
Other than those 3 pairs, I'm sitting and going through lists in my head, saying "Nope. Nope. Brother & Sister. Nope. Don't get along at all. Nope. Started out as brother & brother but became brother & sister. Nope." Etc, etc.
I wonder if that's because tv shows seem to be very fond of the protective older brother/helpless younger sister dynamic, and find that it doesn't work to have a younger brother because male characters are "supposed" to protect themselves, but it's "okay" to protect the girl? Or more palatably, they want to show families of choice made up of friends, so they make their characters all only children?

This would make a very interesting meta, actually :) My guess is there's also something to be said for not having to pay another actor/actress :) And it seems when someone has a baby on shows, chances are extremely good it will be twins. Sheesh.
Who knew finding brothers would be so hard????
