Posted Part 8 of A Lot to Live Up To the other day. I might take a week off from it this week, depending on what goes on with [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix. I hope not, but I haven't done much on it. :P

I should be writing (and getting the kids up), but this one was too good to pass up (from [livejournal.com profile] musesfool:

List 10 (or however many) platonic male/female relationships in fiction that you enjoy. My attempt at rules:

1. They interact in canon, preferably in a significant (apply your own interpretation of such) way.
2. They are not related. They can, however, view each other as surrogate family.
3. Neither has confessed or implied romantic love for the other in canon.
4. They have not dated, been married, had sex, or made out in canon, on purpose, and over their own free will.
5. A popular fanon ship is ok (though preferably not your ship) but a canon pairing you wish were just friends is out.
6. Try to avoid using the same character or series twice.
7. They don’t have to be friends.

1.) Gaeta and Dee from BSG: They're like the one fairly innocent relationship. We never see them fight, but admittedly, they also seem fairly quiet in their support of each other. I have this theory that they don't fight, because they can't bear to lose each other. They might drift apart from each other, but they always come back to their friendship. I also feel like there are times they don't tell each other what they are thinking because they know they don't agree and they can't afford to risk it. But there's a reason he's rudderless when he loses her. ::sniffle:: (Honorary BSG mention: Dee and Adama, but that sort of went by the wayside and they ended up related anyway.)

2.) Mia and Boris from The Princess Diaries: Through the first few books, Mia thinks of Boris as a geek that her friends inexplicably date. But eventually, she starts seeing that under the geek exterior, Boris is a truly good friend, and he's the kind of guy that actually makes a great boyfriend, and her friends (especially Tina more than Lily) have been aware of that.

3.) Jayne and Kaylee from Firefly: It's nothing big, but that moment in the pilot when Jayne is anxiously watching Simon operate on Kaylee... he's her big brother and he adores her, even if he'd rather be raked over hot coals rather than admit it. (Kaylee and anyone, really, because Kaylee is LOVE. I also would have liked to have gotten to see more of Book and Inara.)

4.) CJ and Toby (and Sam and Josh and Charlie) from The West Wing. CJ is awesome- trufax. And they totally realize it. Good for them.

5.) Locke and Claire from Lost. It's kind of an odd one, but Locke was so protective of Claire. I really liked that about him. And Claire was kind to Locke.

6.) Buffy and Giles. Because I love daddy/daughter relationships. Can I count Buffy/Xander, here, too? I mean, he had a kiddy crush on her, but he got over it, and once he did, there was never a truer friend than Xander Harris. (Also a big fan of Xander and Dawn, but again, Dawn had a kiddie crush on Xander.)

7.) Dany and her riders in A Song of Ice and Fire. I love that Dany eventually has her own guards, and she treats them like Drogo treats his. That's pretty awesome.

8.) Lily and Ted in How I Met Your Mother. I love all of the core friendships in that, but Lily and Ted are awesome with their brother-sister vibe they've got going.

9.) Luna and Harry from Harry Potter. The bits where she was comforting him about Sirius were heart wrenching, but in a good way. (More bonus points for Harry and Hermione, Lily and Sirius, and McGonagall and Snape.)

10.) Dee and Hoshi from my own fic. I know, that probably really breaks the rules, but I really, really, really like the relationship they're forming. (Also very much like Dee and Narcho.)

Buffy and Giles was the first thing to come to mind for me! As is Faith and Giles (one of the only good things that came from the season 8 comics was their interactions. Fantastic scene where he grabs her and she kind of panics and stabs him with a fork. When he rolls up his sleeve to inspect the damage she sees his Mark of Eyghon tattoo and he says something along the lines of if she thought she was the only teen ever to rebel.)

I'm immensely irritated that Cordelia and Angel stopped being platonic because they were great too. :( I liked them better as friends than as romantic. PAH... I hate when that happened... it happened in Chance as well... Simon and Chance had the best friendship evar and then they had sex and bah... (Unfortunately that entire movie is just fuel to the kinda crazy Spike/Tara shippers... oh Amber and James... and Andy Hallett how you are missed.)

Let's see...
Veronica Mars and Wallace Fennel, actually their lack of romance was probably my favorite thing about them. They got to be awesome crimesolving team without any attraction between them.

Do Kara and Helo count? (Canonically they never had a thing but I totally believe that they got it on at least once back in the day. That sort of defeats the purpose. Who cares, I love them.)

Sarah and Casey in Chuck. Secretly? I ship Chuck/Casey more than Chuck/Sarah. But I'm down with them having an awesome spy threesome.

Ten and Donna in Doctor Who. Donna is just so different from Rose and Martha who do love... she's just so BAM!! In your face, and I think that's good for Ten.

Okay I have always had a soft spot for these since a large amount of my close friends are male. Here is my top ten.

1) Kira and Garak from DS9: They had easily one of the most complex relationships on television, they hated each other on sight but grew to at least respect each other by the end. The history between their respective species gives their relationship weight and makes it something of a metaphor for the series itself. I could go on all day about these two but I spare you that :) .
2) Faith and Boscoe from Third Watch: These two really need each other and they stick together through every shooting and plot twist I love them.
3) Sam and Jean from BSG: This one is a little one sided than the other's on this list and it probably gets the least screen time but it was an interesting dynamic to watch.
4) Mary and Marshall from In Plain Sight: I fear their may be a rocky road ahead since TPTB seem to be going with the UST route for these two but I like them better as freinds for now its just moe fun that way.
5) Sayid and Kate from Lost: I know their on the outs right now but in a way that's why I like them. Kate seems to be the only one who cares about Sayid as more than just when she needs him, she blew up at him this season not just because she didn't like what he did but because she expected better from him. No UST here thank god in fact I think half the reason I like it is because its Kate only relationship without it.
6) Harry and Molly from the Harry Potter books: I know this is a little odd for this list but I love how this relationship works and how much love these two have. Their scenes are always the parts of the books that make me cry.
7)Mal and Zoe from Firefly: Cuz their funnuy and two of the most awesome badasses around.
8)Lily and Barney on How I Met Your Mother: these two bring out the best in each other.
9)Gibbs and Ziva from NCIS: Cuz they need each but they can't admit that.
10) Kara and Helo:cuz its her sanest relationship.
