Well, Happy Fourth of July to all the Americans on my f-list!

Ours was okay. I went running today (six miles, whoohoo!), and then kind of putzed for the rest of the afternoon. I'm having WAY too much fun with my remix for [livejournal.com profile] remixredux09, but I'd better wrap it up soon, as it's due in a week. Then I got the little I needed to get ready for our barbecue, which was a really small thing with us and my in-laws. (Just the parents.)

Unfortunately, barbecue did not go smoothly.

First off, there were six of us- four adults and two toddlers. My in-laws brought 2 packages of hot dogs and 3 pounds of macaroni salad. This would be far less annoying if they weren't on a limited income. But everything was going well, until it came time to eat. We were all sitting at the table... and suddenly Toby burst into tears screaming "I hurt!"

There was a yellowjacket nest under the table, and he'd kicked it.

Fortunately, he only got stung twice. And unlike last time when he got an insect bite, this time I was on more familiar ground. I think even just because I knew what it was. Got him inside, got him cleaned up, and cuddled him on my lap as we did the ice thing. The What to Expect book was very explicit on how likely a severe reaction is (not likely at all) and when I could expect the scary stuff if it was going to happen (in 5-10 minutes), so even by the time I'd found the section in the book and Toby was calming down, I was convinced he'd be fine. And he was. We watched TV, he finished his dinner and got dessert, and Howard made sure the nest was gone. (He'd gotten 10 earlier that afternoon. Apparently, there were 11.) Poor kid.

I posted fic yesterday: Part 9 of A Lot to Live Up To. Even better, though, [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix has been posting, and the one written for me was posted today! Yes, I know who remixed me, but she sent her story only to [livejournal.com profile] rose_griffes, so I didn't know until today what story she'd picked. She wrote A Bend in the Stream, which is a remix of Softly Tread The Sand Below Your Feet. It's from Tom's point of view (the engineer/goateed Two that had the scrambler box), and it's FANTASTIC. It's a great look at the Cylon life on Earth II, and it's beautifully done.

In fact, it's so beautifully done I'm going to go read it again before I go to bed.

Have a great fourth!

Holy crap do I envy your running so hard. O_O;;

I'm so sorry I haven't gotten around to reading the rest of Pain and Heaven or Part 9 yet. Work's been a killer. I will get to it though, I swear.

It's not like it's even hard work. It's just ringing a register and standing for hours and hours and hours.

Awww, poor Toby! Stings are horrible even when you're grown up. I wasn't sure what a yellowjacket was, but Google images suggests it's what we'd call a wasp over here. They are nasty indeed, no wonder he hurt! Poor baby.

Thanks. Yeah, I think they're pretty much the same as wasps. Either way- ouch!

Why is it sometimes I get an "invalid error" message when the window has been open too long, and sometimes I don't? And even when I get it, sometimes my comment has been saved if I re-open the box to try again, and sometimes it's been eaten? (Like now? :P)

Anyway - my SIL brought way too much food, too - more than we'd asked for, and too much of what we DID ask for - but we managed. I'm glad Toby wasn't too badly hurt, and I hope the wasps go away!

Doesn't it suck when LJ eats your comments?

Thanks. It's nice to know someone else deals with the same problems! And yeah, Toby was running around like a madman today and playing on the patio, so that was good. I still just want to hug him tight whenever I think of it, though!
