I am SO ready to put ALTLUT to bed. I really am.

And I forgot all about Sine Qua Non and The Hub, and that Dee should have some sort of reaction to LEE being President. And Tigh being a Cylon (I figure he's really the only one Dee would care about). And the destruction of The Hub.

The thing is, I hate Sine Qua Non, with a passion. I hate it because it's basically Adama being a pissy little boy, and the whole point of the episode is "pacify the Admiral." Which would be fine, if RDM would have made it look like Adama was wrong later on. I mean, when Laura kidnapped Hera, I could understand why, but there was never any doubt in anyone's mind that it was meant to be construed as a bad idea. When Adama refused to acknowledge Zarek as President, it was more of an "oh well." And then this whole search to find someone Adama won't object... Bill- put on your big girl panties and deal with democracy, okay??? Our declare martial law.

So, yeah. Plus, I have a hard time writing episode-based fic off of one watch. (Although the scripts help.) When I did my series rewatch pre-4.5, I didn't rewatch Sine Qua Non, The Hub, or Revelations, because they weren't burned to disk or something. And we still haven't bought 4.5. Although I'm not so worried about Revelations and SaGN- those episodes stuck in my head really well. SQN and The Hub were just much more nebulous.

I'm just ready to finish this one up. I sent the first bit of my big bang off the other day, and I REALLY want to get moving on that. Plus, we all know how ALTLUT has to end, and yeah.... that's gonna hurt.

Okay. Time to get the kiddies ready for a playdate.

So is this looking like ATLUT is going to still be finished in one more chapter? Or did this set you back? (When do Big Bangs come out, anyway?)

I am desperately hoping ALTLUT will be finished in one more chapter. I've loved writing it, but I'm ready to move on to my AU. The thing about the SNQ/Hub plot is that very little of it affects Dee directly. My guess is she does two things during that time period: work in the CIC, and sleep when she's ready to drop. It's all such a crisis situation... So I don't think I need to do much with this section, but I need to acknowledge Lee being President from Dee's POV, and Tigh being a Cylon. Everything else... minimal, really. And maybe some Adama stuff.

Truthfully? As I'm writing this I'm seeing how much I dislike the decision for Dee to suicide. There was never anything in canon to make it Dee instead of anyone else- they just didn't know what to do with her and wanted to jerk the heartstrings.

Honestly, if I went AU with this, what would happen would be that Narcho would be the suicide, Felix would let Hoshi in on the mutiny and they'd do it together, and Dee would be locked in the brig to protect her and then she'd be Admiral. The more I write this, the more I'm thinking "no, Dee wouldn't have done this." ::sighs and goes back to read more of rap541's meta::

Thanks for the faith! I would have forgiven Adama that episode, I think, if he hadn't been such an ass the rest of 4.5. Or if they'd made it clear that Adama was in the wrong. I mean, a few characters put up a half-assed fight about it, but it was very much going through the motions.

Seriously, that drove me nuts. It was a military coup, the SECOND military coup against Zarek (Because Zarek stepping down for Roslin because Bill is angry at him at the start of the 3rd season ALSO totally not kosher).

No wonder he had issues *head desk*

But Zarek exuding rightous anger at Lee was awesome ^__^

What gets me the most isn't just that this is the second time (more on that in a second)- it's that- aside from the Circle (which TIGH was a member of), there's been nothing that Zarek's done on camera to make anyone think that he's a bad choice. And yeah, if they were going to make it clear that Bill was impeding on democracy, yeah, I'm FINE with heroes doing naughty things and having it haunt them. But to use an HP example, it was very much like Harry using the Unforgivables in DH. It SHOULD cost them to do the things they're doing, but it isn't.

I ficced both coups for my Zarek-Gaeta novel, and I have to admit the first one... I don't agree with what Adama and Roslin did, but I can see it better. I can even believe that Zarek understand that one, because Baltar's presidency was such a disaster that Zarek might feel that it truly would be best for the people to have Laura back. Too many people were too damaged for anyone close to Baltar to work. Plus, if you think about it, Roslin and Adama sideswiped Zarek at the time he was probably most vulnerable emotionally. He'd just been released from four months of prison (with some implications of torture) less than 48 hours prior (although why he was clean-shaven is a bit of a mystery), and was probably not quite up for a real fight. Not saying that it was in any way legal, but I can see that one a little better. I didn't hate them for that one.

But the Sine Qua Non one... we've barely seen Zarek since the Circle in Collaborators, and every time he's been cooperative. There was absolutely no excuse for it.

Erm, not that I'm Team Mutiny all the way :)

What's hard for this fic is it's a Dee perspective, and Dee loves Adama and hates Zarek with a passion, so how to deal with this... :P It's very sad.
