So, [livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon has come to a close. I haven't read everything (and won't, because there are a ton of fandoms I don't know anything about), but the gems of what I've read:

Do No Harm by [livejournal.com profile] brennanspeaks. (BSG) The story of a mutiny, a medic, and the three patients who stayed with her. Layne Ishay during the mutiny. Bring tissues, because it will break your heart. (And actually, I'm not talking about the end.)

The Supervisor's Tale by [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain. (Harry Potter) Just how did a new translation of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by Hermione Granger make it into Muggle bookstores? Minerva McGonagall explains. I've seen it recced all over, and for good reason. If you've ever spent time in an academic institution, you'll like this one. McGonagall is Hermione's thesis advisor. One warning: if you've been, it WILL give you flashbacks to grad school.

Majesty by [livejournal.com profile] kellychambliss. (Harry Potter) Once upon a time, there was a great queen and a powerful witch. . . Normally, I avoid RPF like the plague. This time, I was way too intrigued (helps that it's a gen ficathon.) Minerva McGonagall meets Queen Elizabeth II. Come on. You know you want to read this....

Watched Fringe last night while sewing the wings on a pteronadon costume for Halloween. Hey, BSG? See how they actually REMEMBERED Charlie???? It broke my heart that Charlie died, but I was really glad to see that it had an effect on Olivia. I'm holding out hope that we'll see the Charlie from the other side, though. I like Charlie. The only thing they could have done worse (and they had SO better NOT) is kill Astrid. For Yuletide, I am SO requesting an Astrid fic.

Also, Walter promising 'no students' cracked both Howard and I up. Because you could totally see he was SO going to go there. Hee.

I haven't delved into Flash Forward. It's at 8:00- an awkward time for me as I'm putting the kids down. I think I've hit the "I'm waiting for DVD" point. I also haven't yet watched last Dollhouse. (Is it even on this week? I know the Yankees and the Angels are playing at 7:30 on FOX.) Nothing has me really super-psyched this season, I'm afraid. Although I'm massively enjoying Big Bang Theory.

We also had a Wegman's open near us. It's kind of sad when your big excitement of the week is sewing wings on a pteronadon costume and the opening of a grocery store. Wow, do I need a life!!!!

And to work on big bang. Off I go!

No Dollhouse this week. Even though baseball is my One True Sport, I have to shake my fist at it, because it was one of the reasons for Firefly's downfall. Though Dollhouse doesn't really grab me most of the time (I fully blame Eliza Dushku), so it won't cause me angst if it suffers Firefly's fate. (the demise of FF, OTOH, still makes me all ragey.)

I don't watch Big Bang Theory at all (I don't know why!) but Wil Wheaton's on it this coming week!

Firefly never should have died. ::sigh::

Big Bang Theory is really fun. (It's also the most shipless show I have ever watched. I SO can not get into ships on it.) Wil Wheaton ought to be a hoot. I finally saw the episode with Michael Trucco. (Oh, the pretty.) I so want an episode with one of my boys on it, because either AJ or BD could play the geek just fine, but odds of that happening... yeah :P Oh well.

*wibbles* Yes, the Charlie remembrance is heartbreaking. But you pointing that out and mentioning BSG made me think of Dee, and now it's doubly heartbreaking.

If they kill Astrid, I may have to stop watching the show. Even though Olivia is technically my favorite, I don't know if I could get past my anger if that happened. *hearts Fringe girls*

I know. ONE mention of Dee? Really? That's all the show could do? (Although at least she got pinned on the wall. And she got the second half of her episode to be remembered, although it was really All About Adama.)

I like Olivia, too, but Astrid... Astrid needs a good story line. They can't kill Astrid. ::hugs Astrid:: Astrid is the Dee of Fringe. She might not be a main character, but she's so sweet and competent and great that she grabs my heart.

Yeah. I mean, I can interpret canon to give her more impact (Gaeta, Sam and Narcho being extra bitter and depressed around the time of the mutiny, because they were her friends) but it's all fanon. *sigh*

Given the show, I'm not sure I want Astrid to have a storyline, because that means something weird and possibly sad has to happen to her. And I like her the way she is.

I'll see if I can find time for those HP fics one of these days.

Speaking of having a life - feel like coming up for a visit one of these Tuesdays? :)

I'm assuming Toby is feeling better again?

Definitely feel like a visit! When works for you!

Yeah- Toby's feeling better. I think he just had a cold, and it was the bad day of it. He was really congested there for a few days, but nothing too icky.

I think pretty much any Tues in the foreseeable future will be fine (barring unexpected illness and other unpredictable stuff :P). Do you have a preference?

Thanks for the rec! I've gotten more reviews, a few of them saying "I don't know the fandom, but good fic!" It worked.

I hadn't read "The Supervisor's Tale," but you're right; it's a gem. McGonagall reminds me of my freshman year advisor :) (feels old and is nostalgic)

A fandom where they actually remember the dead? (gasp) What is this blasphemy, and where can I find it?

Looking forward to your big bang!

Thanks! Glad people are reading your fic- it's awesome and deserves to be read :)

I KNOW! And they remembered him tastefully, without ridiculous OOC over the topishness, but not just dismissed. It was really nicely done. Fringe. Good show, especially if you liked the X-Files. Highly recommend.

I'm starting to look forward to being done! I really think this sucker is going to be as long as the Dee fic- I'm on page 178 right now. Eek!
