One of those fun memes that makes the rounds every now and then, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] puszysty:

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment. (I picked em from 15 different source materials this time)

2) Ask your flist to post questions in the comments. For example: 'One, nine and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?' 'Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?' 'Which character on the list would you most want on your side in a zombie invasion?' 'Write a drabble in which three and eleven fight crime.' (...possibly not technically a question.)

3) After your flist has asked enough questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

Fun because I can be creative without writing a "ficlet", as my ficlets tend to be 6-10 pages. :P

Went running yesterday for the first time in almost a month. I was pleased I could still run three miles no problem. At the end of March, I'm going down to the Carolinas to run a race with a friend. Howard's owed me a weekend away for over a year, and I've just never gotten around to taking it. One of my friends suggested I do a 10K with her, and then we spend the rest of the day hanging out in Charleston. Running, shopping, eating at what she promises is an amazing restaurant (and I totally believe her), and lots of girl time... this sounds like an excellent use of my weekend away. I just have to be sure I can run six miles by then! :) (I don't care so much about my time, to be honest. I just want to finish the race without walking.)

I've FINALLY been reading The Handmaid's Tale. I'm not too far in, but I'm really liking it so far. I've always heard good things about it, it's just my reading has been slow ever since I had kids. It speeds up in the winter because I like to take baths, and I read in the bath. This summer it might even go reasonably, because the kids are getting big enough that they won't need constant help at the parks. (I hope.) Some of them, yes, but not all. I think we're going to hit the library later today. We haven't done that in AGES- Toby doesn't go to storytime anymore because of pre-school, and storytime falls right when I have to pick Toby up from preschool, so I don't take Trevor. (It's not like we don't read enough around here anyway. There are always books before naps and bed, and in the past two weeks we've been seeming to read for a good half hour to an hour in the morning.) I can't WAIT for park weather, though. These two need to get outside more.

Eek. Morning goes too fast. Just about time to get the kiddies up, and the grocery shopping and laundry on my list for the day. Sense my joy :P

Characters 2, 6, and 11 are stuck in a car, during a blizzard, on a road trip through the canadian wilderness. It's cold. There's no gas station around for miles. And all they have for food is a large bag of potato chips. What happens?

Five and eight star in a made-for-TV movie based on fourteen's life story. Who do they play, and how does the movie turn out? Is fourteen pleased or dissatisfied with the result?

Three turns out to be seven's secret love-child. How does seven break the news, how does three take it, and which character in your list is most likely to be the other secret parent?

Thirteen and one start their own business together. What kind of business is it? How successful are they?

I really liked The Handmaid's Tale too, even though it's not exactly cheerful reading.

Where are we on future Tuesday-picking?

Definitely not cheerful.

Future Tuesday picking! I -think- I'm back to "most anything works for me" now. Got a date?

1) The zombie apocalypse has arrived, and 1, 5, 7 and 8 are holed up in the local department store (there's food, clothing, and plenty of stuff they can use as weapons). Who's the leader, who gets zombified, and who survives?

2) Write a ficlet in which 2 and 10 travel through time and space.

3) 3, 6 and 9 are MSTing a movie. What movie, and how good are they are making fun of it?

4) 4 gets amnesia and gets lost at the same time. Can 13 save 4?

5) Write a drabble in which 12 and 15 fight crime.

6) 14 falls in love with 11. 11 loves someone not on this list. What does 14 do? Does 11 ever change his/her mind?

If twelve and seven were trapped in a elevator together for two days, would they both survive? Would they find an ingenious way out, or would they kill each other?

Two and three set up four and five on a blind date. Does it go well?

The apocolypse has arrived! Which character leads the rest in the endgame battle for survival?

And yay Handmaid's Tale! I had to read it for Women's Studies, and it was one of the few books I have ever liked in spite of having been assigned to read it. (It seems to me that the more analyzing of a book you have to do, the worse it gets just for the tedium.)

As a note: This is not a zombie apocoplypse. Just a good old-fashioned apocolypse of biblical proportions. :)

1 is incredibly embarrassed by something that happened in their relationship with 15, and seeks help from 7.

Also, second the potato chips/car one. ;} And the zombie apocalypse.

Handmaid's Tale is amazing and if you like Atwood you should find The Blind Assassin- I think its her best work by far. Its less famous and less political, but I think its more well written. Though I find myself thinking about one character in Handmaid's Tale a lot- the first wife. There are a lot of conservative female politicians who seem to be following that same model- you might know what I mean when you're there.

Um... Characters 14 and 15 die horribly, and it could be because of something 1, 2 and 3 didn't do. How do the first three deal with their guilt about possibly having killed off the last characters?

I second the rec of The Blind Assassin! It's such a fascinating, layered book. Not quite the punch in the gut that The Handmaid's Tale is, but fantastic in its own way.
