Apr. 29th, 2010 09:42 amIt looks gorgeous outside today. I'm debating what to do with the kids today. I do know I need to go to the grocery store (which, yay, exciting, right?), but I'm debating about park vs. going to Lowe's to buy soil for my garden. I think we'll balance it out somehow- get the soil and then play at the park as a reward.
Finished the rough draft of my
lgbtfest fic last night. I'm mostly happy with it, but it still needs some tightening. I'll be interested to see what my betas have to say about it. There are parts I am in LOVE with, and there are parts that... it's not the ideas, it's just the language. I also kind of want to take a couple of the segments and expand them out into full stories.
Like usual, when I've handed a fic in (or am done with it), I am bored :) I have writing stuff planned- right now I'm working on a "Five things Dollhouse" article for MRFH, which I've been bad about writing for right now. I'm going to write some stuff for the
gaeta_squee meme that's going, plus there's my multifandom remix, which I need to get my ass moving on. But like I said, bored now, so I'm stealing an easy meme from
kappamaki33:
Okay, the meme is the Timestamp Meme, only I'm not going to do ficlets--just answers for what's going on at any time in the timeline before or after any fic. Actually, I might as well call it the "Fic Open Season" meme: any question about any fic I've written is game.
The non-ficlets thing makes it easier ;)
Can Sesame Street go on a little longer? I could stand a nap....

Date: 2010-04-29 02:09 pm (UTC)You're right that Felix is jealous of how Adama treats Hoshi, although the funny thing is that Hoshi's not that close to Adama. Hoshi is the kind of person who can forgive Adama for some of the things he did, like not telling him Felix was alive and locking him back up in the Cylon brig, but he'll never forget it. And Hoshi still has a hard time with Adama, because he knows the Admiral knows he was raped and they don't really know how to deal with it. So he works with him, and then avoids him when he can.
Felix's attitude about Hoshi and Adama is kind of complex. On the one hand, Felix sees Adama's respect for Hoshi and envies it, because he never got that respect from Adama. He still doesn't, because Adama avoids him. But at the same time, Louis has told Felix what happened, and Felix is angry on Louis's behalf. And as for Adama... Adama would be happy if he never, ever saw Louis or Felix again. He can deal with them, and he accepts his guilt as a burden, but he knows that some of how he handled their respective situations really harmed them badly, and he doesn't know how to deal with that. He can deal with Hoshi better than he can deal with Felix, because he's forced into it.
To be honest, not a whole lot happens with Felix and Adama once Felix starts working at the school. They're very polite to each other- Felix is grateful that Adama did eventually come to rescue him, and time has made some of his angers fade- and although Felix doesn't see it, Adama does have respect for Felix, and even more for Hoshi. So he's polite, but he doesn't know how to move beyond that.
Adama's not invited to Gaeta and Hoshi's wedding, incidentally. Frankly, very few people are- it's very small, because I see them wanting something intimate and something low-key in terms of actual ceremonies and celebration. And to be honest, Adama doesn't move in the same social circle as them. Adama hangs out with the Tighs and Lee and the a lot of the older crowd, whereas they're more involved with the teachers, Jesse and Sarah, Brooks and Todd, and Zarek and Racetrack. (Actually, THAT would be the more interesting ficlet- how Racetrack and Hoshi got over their issues. Because in that case, Racetrack feels guilty because she was in on the mutiny, but at the same time, she never, Ever would have condoned what Gage et al. did. But because Zarek and Hoshi are so close, and Racetrack marries Zarek, that's one where they need to get over it.)
And thanks! :)

Date: 2010-04-30 02:27 am (UTC)Drunkenly :) Actually, Suspension of Disbelief can be used a bit for that one. I tend to go for very low-key hookups, so it was probably they got drunk at a Baltar party and slept together. Sadly, that's a boring answer, but.... ::sigh::
The one thing about my Gaeta/Zarek stuff is the Gaeta/Baltar relationship never came to fruition. Generally, I think of Baltar as... well, the truest version of omnisexual. The only kink I cannot imagine Baltar ever indulging in is anything where consent is compromised (be it rape, dub-con, sexual blackmail, or pedeophilia. In fact, I see a lack of consent as a real turn-off for someone like Gaius, who thinks everyone should be crazy about him.) But women, men, light sockets... I can see Baltar doing any of it. But I am not of the school of thought that everyone is bisexual, and it just seems odd to me that all three of the top men in the New Caprican government would be bi, you know? I always write Felix as gay, and I can believe Tom OR Baltar is bi, but not both if Felix is gay. It just veers too much into the "everybody is gay" trope.
I still sort of wish they'd gone there with Gaeta and Zarek, though. It would have been interesting. (Although the Zarek/Roslin chemistry was totally undeniable.)

Date: 2010-04-30 02:44 am (UTC)"Every Man Must Choose His Way" becomes really interesting, and I think a large part of it depends on what happens with Billy and Zarek, of all people, much more than Billy and Gaeta or Billy and Dee. Let's see.
-Billy and Laura have tearful apologies. However, there has been major damage done to their relationship. For one, Laura did try to steal an election, and Billy's idealistic enough that that would bother him. And Laura spent four months believing that Billy was collaborating. She's so glad she was wrong, but she really believed it, and it eroded her faith in him. And Tory is still around.
-Therefore, when Laura offers Billy his job as her aide back, Billy refuses, and goes back to work for Tom. However, Billy also takes that as an olive branch, and the split is not at all bitter. He also thinks that he might have more of a career with Tom and have an easier time leaving Tom's shadow.
-The Circle still exists. Interesting question- does Billy get behind it? Hmmm. I'm going to have to say no, just because Billy's realistic enough to realize he easily could have been on that list. Does Tom pull him in on it? I don't think so, and I'm going to say Billy just isn't working for Tom yet at that point. Because if Tom realizes why Billy would say no, he'd realize just how ineffective the Circle is.
-However, the Circle does NOT get their hands on Felix, because now everyone knows what Felix did. Felix is not frozen out so intensely, and he doesn't have the deep guilt over New Caprica that he might have had.
-However, he does still get together with Hoshi, because we are both Gaeta/Hoshi shippers :)
-Billy and Felix stay extremely close. Billy and Louis bond almost instantly, because Louis is sort of a gay military version of Billy. They have a few drunken nights where they geek out, after which they very much consider themselves brothers. Billy and Dee start to mend fences as well, because what Dee did was far from as terrible as half of fandom makes it out to be, and Billy has truly healed from it, and she's such a presence in Billy's life.
-And for fun, because I think Billy was made to be married eventually and craves the stability, Louis introduces Billy to one of his friends from the Pegasus, who I would probably make a marine. She's very sweet and very strong, and she and Billy hit it off and become a couple.
-Things go along much like canon. Billy keeps working for Tom, and he and Tom get closer and closer. Felix isn't as outwardly bitter, but the Baltar-Felix plotline does not change much, and that really affects him, much the same as it did in canon. Baltar's little secret isn't something true, but a threat somehow- I'm not sure how- threatening to implicate Felix in something, similar to the original Sagittaron plotline that got dropped.
-Baltar is still acquitted, Felix still goes on the Demetrius, very bitter.
-I'm debating if Billy would be the Caprican representitive (since I'm pulling this all out of my ass as I go along.) It makes sense... but I also want to keep him very close to Zarek. Hmmm.

Date: 2010-04-30 03:14 am (UTC)-Felix still (ouch) gets his leg shot off. But... now here's another interesting question. Is Tory still the Cylon? Or is it Billy? Erm, let's say Tory still is. Easier. Anyway, Felix gets his leg shot off, tells Billy. Commiseration scene between Billy and Felix.
-When they unbox D'Anna, Billy also asks to have Leah unboxed as well. I think that would have to happen, and he would think that that Leah deserves a chance, given what she did for humanity.
-Earth goes very much like it did, and Dee still commits suicide. And for a little while after Earth and Dee, Billy drinks very heavily. The Raptor of Doom happens, but very, VERY differently. Felix isn't on that Raptor- Billy is. And instead of Sweet!Eight, it's Leah. And Leah's got some very cold logic. She sees that Billy is drinking a lot (he's not sober when he gets on the Raptor). She kills the others off for the air, and leaves Billy alive, intending to blame it on him. Billy does figure it out and kills her, or at least reports her when they get back. But he'd so believed Leah deserved a chance, and then she screwed him over.... So yeah. Billy loses any faith in Cylons.
-Now, here;'s a spot where there's potential for change. Let's say that Billy DID become the Cap. Rep. That's interesting, because Billy might be able to sway the Quorum to confirm Zarek. And if that happens, then Zarek does not kill the Quorum during the mutiny. I like that.
-The place where Billy has influence over Felix is the trial of Adama. He IS able to get Felix to see that this trial is bullshit. What's interesting is I think Billy- billy who argued that Tom Zarek was a freedom fighter, not a butcher- would be the one to force Felix's hand in a way that Tom couldn't when it comes to killing Adama.
-However, most of the mutiny turns out in ways that are not under the control of Billy and Felix and Tom, so I suspect Roslin and Adama would regain control. Unless Felix shot Adama first. But let's face it- when we get down to it, the real question is this:
Would Laura Roslin be able to execute Billy Keikeya? Because if she can't, Tom is safe as well. (Felix is under Adama's authority.)
Unfortunately, I think that what this really means is there's a third chair in that airlock, and Roslin and Dee are at the execution as well.
OR.
Wait! There IS a way that this could be changed. Not only does Billy keep the Quorum from being killed, but the Raptor of Doom didn't happen to Felix, and Billy would convince Felix to let Louis in on everything. And LOUIS could change a few things. Oooh- There we go! LOUIS could kill Adama. (Why not? It's not like he had any character development before Adama announced that he respected him.) And if Adama dies, the mutiny has a better chance of succeeding.
-And if that happens, I have no real clue what happens. ::sigh::
fun answer, though! :)

Laura executing Billy hurts me deep inside. Like Adama executing Dee. You are just plain cruel. I love it.
