Ugh. Is there much in this life that's more annoying than grocery shopping on a Sunday? Yes, there's a lot that's worse. Like not having enough money for food for grocery shopping on a Sunday. I really do appreciate what I've got. But seriously- I have got to start going to the store at better times.

This is more for my reference than anything else, but...

Things That Must Get Written ASAP:

-Wolfstar Lost Years Story
-[livejournal.com profile] femgenficathon story
-MRFH Summit stuff
-MRFH Review- Hitch (extra stuff only)
MRFH Review- Keeping the Faith (all)
-The Christianity in Movies article with Justin
-Mutant Viewing of Prisoner of Azkaban with [livejournal.com profile] pfrsue

Things that are on the burner and need to be finished soon:

-Accidentally in Love Part X
-[livejournal.com profile] hp_synergy R/S --> R/T story
-Sirius and Marge
-Fics for [livejournal.com profile] sirius_loving- Sirius's good memories gradually coming back to him (I've been DYING to write that, but it doesn't fit into anything else) and a minor character's opinion of Sirius after his death (let's just say it will have been a REALLY good idea to have read Mentors, first... ;) )
-The scientists in movies article (especially now that the Army is giving grants to have mid-career scientists write movies that glamorize scientists as a recruitment strategy.)
-More reviews, especially Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Things that I'm so tempted to write:

-More Regulus. But who isn't? And AIL should shut that up.
-Toby Zeigler teaches Muggle Studies while Snape teaches Potions. That will be one of those one-shots like Accio Bananas! that I just have to be in the exact right frame of mind for and it will be done in one sitting. If I do it right, it could be really, really, really, really funny. If I do it wrong, it will be dumb. We'll see if the right mood comes along.
-Sue and I need to mockingly gang up on Kyle, especially after his last article on MRFH. We really do.

Toby Zeigler teaches Muggle Studies

Toby Zeigler and the Wizarding world in general is just a hilarious concept, all by itself. WW meets the WW. *g*

I know. Toby Zeigler alone cracks me up- he's by far my favorite character on West Wing. And I just want to write him throwing that ball at Snape's office. Snape vs. Toby would just be too much if it was done right :)

-The scientists in movies article (especially now that the Army is giving grants to have mid-career scientists write movies that glamorize scientists as a recruitment strategy.)

Come again? Aren't defence scientists in the US civilian as they are in other countries? (Do they take international applications for these grants? :-) )

-Sirius and Marge

For a brief second I thought that meant Sirius with Marge Simpson. (Yes I do need more coffee, why do you ask?) ;-)

The article is here (http://news.com.com/Pentagon%27s+new+goal%3A+Put+science+into+scripts/2100-1047_3-5821749.html?tag=fd_nbs_ent&tag=nl.e703) (assuming the link still works.)

Defense scientists ARE civilian, usually (I was one, in grad school), and the military tends to grant out to all sorts of places. Right now, they're very upset because there's a serious shortage of Ph.D.s that have citizenship, and a lot of American kids just aren't going the grad school route. So the military has a vested interest in seeing more homegrown scientists. They're hoping through this project that they can glamourize science in movies, thus planting the idea in more kids' heads. Kind of interesting, actually.

For a brief second I thought that meant Sirius with Marge Simpson.

that is absolutely terrifying :) Of course, Sirius and Aunt Marge (I assure you, TOTALLY non-sexual) is pretty scary, too!

Is there much in this life that's more annoying than grocery shopping on a Sunday?

Grocery shopping on a Sunday in a town overrun with weekend tourists all through the summer. (She says, grumbling at the long lines of people buying sunscreen and hot dogs and ingredients for s'mores then leaving the grocery store to drive like idiots on the roads and stopping their cars in the middle of the street whenever they see something vaguely resembling wildlife and griping about the trails being steep despite the fact that it's called Rocky Mountain National Park...Not that I think tourists are annoying or anything.)

You have a lot on your burner. Er. Um. I mean, in, like, a writing sense. That wasn't supposed to sound like a some half-baked drunken pick up line.

You win. :) I got really spoiled when I was up at Penn State. There was no one there over the summer, and the grad students pretty much had the town to themselves. ::Sigh::

LOL. And I knew exactly what you meant. I'm going to be writing like crazy.

you have a lorra, lorra lorra fanfic

to be getting on with, haven't you?

*shakes head*

i don't envy you at all.

Reg. Heh, everyone should write Reg.

I'm still banging away at meta re: HBP. I'm tired of Snape's loyalties and horcruces being discussed. There's a few more topics there (not as much as HBP, but we'll see what we can do).

Yup. We shall see how many actually get written. The MRFH stuff HAS to get written though. (Although the Summit stuff is done, and the Hitch review is almost there.)

I look forward to your meta stuff- especially since I'm also tired of Snape's loyalties and horcuces. Interesting topics, but.... ::Sigh:: JKR didn't give us tons to work with in some respects, fandom wise, did she?

No, she didn't

HBP as a story is really very tight. If you took away the ships, I really wouldn't have had a thing to speak about (apart from the meta). Everything else is rather... pat, if you know what I mean.

Right now I'm trying to tell some people that no, they aren't racist and that my latest meta wasn't about them at all, and please, you don't have to convince me that all your good friends are black, thanks.

Now because of this, I don't want to do the Ron/Lavender meta and what it means (in the HBP movie verse) if Lavender is a black girl...

Definitely pat. There's even very little room for additional fanfic- at least the fill in the scenes variety. I also don't feel like I have tons of new questions- or any progress on a lot of my old ones.

I don't envy you on your comments meta thing though. It's kind of scary, when you bring up race, how people can react. (It's actually sort of an attitude I had fun playing with with Caradoc Dearborn, where people are SO eager to convince someone that they see them as an equal that they go overboard the opposite way. I had Caradoc do it with Remus- trying to demonstrate that the werewolf thing didn't bother him and then asking loads of personal questions that he probably never would have asked otherwise.) Anything -ism these days in our society has such a harsh connotation these days... I think people are terrified to be seen as racist, sexist, homophobic, ageist... whatever the non-PC thing of the moment is. Especially younger people. (My stepfather seems to have absolutely no problem or guilt in making racist remarks when it comes to the Arab community.)

I'd actually be really interested to see your meta on the Ron/Lavender idea thought, because it would be interesting. But I can definitely understand your reluctance!

I might do it

the Ron/Lavender meta. It's short, and something that's been weighing on my mind as of late. But the thing is, two racially charged posts in a row? I'm not a shit stirrer, honest. I was surprised to wake up and see the entry on [livejournal.com profile] hogwarts_today. Not that I minded it (it's heartening to see that someone thought it interesting enough to post it there), but I didn't expect it.

Yeah, I've noticed. I haven't been spending as much time on fandom (and related sites and activities) like I used to do.

Although the 'texture' of fandom seems to have changed with the new canon, I really haven't seen any dramatic new approaches to various characters or situations. Also, to be honest, how do you write about the search for Horcruces without boring the reader? I'm wondering what JK Rowling is going to do.

Yeah, I can understand the hesitation there. It's amazing how quickly one can develop a reputation on-line. (There's still tons of people at Immeritus that seem to think I'm an utter slash-a-holic, and are very shocked when they find out Remus/Sirius is my only HP slash pairing.)

Also, to be honest, how do you write about the search for Horcruces without boring the reader? I'm wondering what JK Rowling is going to do.

Totally agree. Although actually, I never write or read much Harry anyway, because I just want JKR's version of Harry. I adore Harry- don't get me wrong. But I know that I will not be left wanting in Harry adventures. It's the older generation where a writer can flex the creativity.

What's very odd for the section of fandom I'm in is that we were basically untouched. It's strange. I felt like Ron, Hermione, and Harry were so well characterized before this and most everything was consistent, so there's not much there. And in the marauder section... well, there's no scrambling to adjust anything major, like there is for Blaise or anything. There's no new tidbits. Lily being good at Potions really wasn't a huge shock for me- she was a Prefect, I assumed she was pretty smart. (And I made her a healer, so she would be good at potions.) The hints at Lily/Snape or some dynamic there were already around in theory as early as... well, I don't remember, but I had the theory well before Goblet of Fire. Making Slughorn the Potions prof is a minor adjustment- rarely is the Potions prof a big deal. And even the "big" reveal- that Remus likes women- is ludicrously easy to ignore. Other than that, we're pretty much free to continue as is.

There's the Greyback-Lupin backstory (I refuse to use a slash there, just on principle), but that's really not anything anyone didn't suspect on some level- it doesn't really alter anything. (Although I think it will be really interesting to see how [livejournal.com profile] ignipes handles the "you were bit because of something I did" conversation in [livejournal.com profile] prankstersguide, especially when compared to how the blow-out will go between Damien and Remus in AiL.) There's Regulus, but how many fans were already giving him more nobility than Sirius implied anyway? (um, most.) I don't know that, for this section of fandom, dramtic new approaches were really required.

Ah well. I guess it's a divine hint to get on with Real Life stuff ;)

Yeah, quite

I should focus on my knitting designs.

Jesus, now this person is asking 'why does race have to be read in everything?'

Should I give her the sociology lesson?

My head hurts.

That sound like an amazing idea! Minor character's opinion...*thinks* But Alphard's dead, can't be him. ¬.¬ Now I wanna know who you¡re talking about.

And yes, please, write more Reg!

Think about how Alphard died. Think about how Sirius died. Guess. :)

Reg is already in AiL, and I've got to admit, I'm REALLY glad I held off on writing the rest of AiL until after HBP, because now I can really do Reg justice. I'm really looking forward to writing some of the stuff with him. Believe it or not, HBP gave me some really great ideas for AiL, without interfering with the romance plotlines. (I'd actually always planned for Remus to discover he had bi tendencies during the Lost Years. Heh.)

Hmmm...worse than grocery shopping on a Sunday? Grocery shopping on a SATURDAY. Supermarket much fuller, barging chavs out of the way left, right and centre. At least it's quieter on a Sunday (and when bump arrives you'll not be having lazy Sunday lie-ins anyway...!)

On a completely nother topic, may I please friend you? I know your fics from Immeritus, and I'd love to know you here too.

Cheers,

Ruby

Actually, Sundays seem to be worse in my area for some reason than Saturdays. But I really need to go on weekdays. ::sigh:: (Except if I go on a weekend, I can get hubby to watch baby and do it alone.)

As for friending, go for it! :) I really should put something on my info page that I don't mind friending at all. I've been kind of lazy about getting back to Immeritus ever since the board switches, so I'm always game. Welcome ;)
