I like spreading the love of fanfic authors, so I'm gonna gak on to this one.

For all of you who don't know (which should be, um, none of you!), my OTP is Remus/Sirius. However, I'm going to put in a disclaimer right now that I'm skipping over some of the biggest names in R/S fanfiction, like [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, [livejournal.com profile] thistlerose, and [livejournal.com profile] musesfool. Not because I think their work sucks, but because they are SO well known. Not that I'm saying that I don't appreciate their writings- I do! Very much! But I like to see the smaller names get some recognition, because there are a lot of great writers out there that just don't get that level of fame. And guess what? I might even not have all R/S recs! (Shock, I know, but hey...)

Today's pick is [livejournal.com profile] mysid, whose archive is here.

Mysid is the only person I know who has written Gryffinwhore!Sirius and made me like it. It hurts- no doubt about that. But I love it.

Fics I like:

Lovers for Tonight/Back to Being Friends. Like I said, Gryffinwhore!Sirius that I like. Why do I like it? I CAN see Sirius going in for a lot of meaningless encounters, because he is good looking and I can see that being a search for acceptance for him (not that he knows this). I can see him not wanting to tie his heart anywhere because he's been so hurt by his family's rejection. But if that's the case, he's not going to suddenly wise up because he sleeps with Remus. And this Sirius doesn't. He doesn't intentionally hurt Remus. In fact, when he realizes he HAS hurt Remus he feels terrible for it. But he's just not mature enough to cope with the feelings Remus has for him, or to recognize (much less cope) with the feelings he has for Remus, until it's pretty much too late. I really like this approach, and I think it works. I also really like that Remus is not a wimp in this, and once he gets fed up, he leaves.

When Moony Met Sin. I'm very picky about OCs, but I really like St. John Wildesmithe (even if I spelled his last name wrong). Friendly, a good guy, but with some major flaws that really affect the story. I like seeing Remus have some happiness in the Lost Years, and I like that he's trying to move on.

The Engagement Party. Sweet, funny, and well-paced. Plus it has Vernon and Marge, which I enjoy reading.

Famous Poofs In History. One of my favorite R/S one-shots of all time. Sirius is so Sirius-ish in this, and Remus is properly moral without being obnoxiously bookish. The short, vague sex scene is hot, and the idea of both of them running around in ancient Greek formalwear is entirely appreciated.

So there's my fanfic author appreciation entry for today.

I love mysid's work and I agree that she doesn't get the appreciation she deserves.

You know, it's so strange that you posted this today because I swear I was thinking about mysid's writing and wondering if she/he had an archive somewhere, because I couldn't remember how I had found the author's stuff before. Isn't it weird how things work out like that? *g* Thanks so much, I'll make sure to bookmark the page this time, lol.

... and by the way, how goes chapter 6 of AIL? ^_^

Glad I could be of service! :)

Chapter 6 of AIL is flowing better than Chapter 5, which is good, but I was lazy this weekend and read Thing instead of writing as much as I should. But the good news is Chapter 6 might actually be ::gasp:: HAPPY! At least in lots of spots. Whoohoo!

(Now watch me turn around and take that right back.)

Oh! [livejournal.com profile] brak4werewolves recc'd [livejournal.com profile] mysid to me. I LOVED her Lovers For Tonight series. Not only because I am a HUGE DMB fan, but because she made me love Gryffindor-Whore!Sirius. Like you, I am not a fan of this characterization of him, because it's usually not very well written. But, you're right. This one is lovely.

After reading this series, I also realized that everything that's written now will be AU in a 4 months. :) I mean, it's all AU, really. But...I don't know what I'm saying. LoL!

Anyway, greaaaaaaaaat rec! Yay for lesser known, but equally as wonderful fic authors! :)

Actually, except for When Sin Met Snuffles, I think most of what she's written has a chance of still being canon-compliant. The first two stories certainly can be, and they fit very well with the Sirius never got married aspect. (I also take her rebel comment to mean he never had a truly committed relationship with Remus, although my head prefers my version ;) )

I'm definitely hitting lesser known authors this week. Who wants to read 100 recs of the same three authors? (Who deserve it, but their works ARE finite!)

Oh yeah, they could be canon-compliant -- to an extent. I was thinking about the summer between POA and GOF in reference to how fics become AU after a new book is released. I love the series and actually have been inspired by her Veil of Possibilities fic. I'm going to email her and ask if I can take her idea and run with it. :)

Anywho, good for you reccing lesser knowns. :) There are several wonderful writers out there and only a few are highlighted. It's great that you're sharing them with everyone else! :)
