The doctor called back with the results of Toby's blood test. He says it looks overwhelmingly viral, and signs are pointing to... guess what... mono.

Well, thank GOD he didn't just hand the kid an antibiotic, because it looks like using an antibiotic when really infected with mono can lead to a nasty rash.

We don't know for sure. The doctor didn't order a mono test originally because 1.) mono is pretty rare in kids Toby's age and 2.) something about the age and making antibodies, a lot of kids this little who have it still test negative. But he's going to have the test done (on the blood they already took, thank GOD), and he'll call with those results tomorrow. And while it's a pain in the ass, it's also not life threatening, so I won't complain too much. (But damn, there goes the rest of this month.) It might still be something else, and regardless it's viral, but we'll see.

In other news, Trevor decided it would be fun to throw his peas all over my clean floor. I have no idea why- he actually likes peas. I guess he just thought it was funny. Haha, Trevor. See how hard Mommy is laughing? As well as at the fact you are apparently not napping?

You know what? I need a nap. Maybe I'll take one right now. We'll see.

Seriously. Mono. Oh well.

You DEFINITELY need a nap after the week you've had. Will H be home this weekend so you can get a break?

I'm glad it's not serious, even if it means the bugger is going to persist for awhile. Call me when it's over and we'll make plans? :)

Interesting! Well, that's actually a fairly common virus that can be picked up a number of different ways. (pardon my scientist curiosity--have you ever had it? Because it's a latent virus and never goes away...though I'm not sure what that means in terms of transmission. I don't think a kid could pick up a latent virus from a parent--if that was the case we'd all be getting chicken pox because that one's latent, too.)

I award your pediatrician several thousand gold stars for not going for the quick antibiotic fix! That's what has gotten us into the mess we're in currently.

Awwww, poor baby! I had that in my first year at med school and it was icky. Yay for your paediatrician, though, he sounds very good. xxx

That seriously sucks. You might want to let his preschool know? That's probably where he got it. LOL at the title of this post; sometimes you've just got to find the humor.

Glad to hear it's nothing life threatening. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
