Question for the Dollhouse Fans-

After Paul goes brain dead, Topher revives him by imprinting himself back on to himself, giving him the Active architecture and essentially making him a Doll with his own personality. Does Paul have a handler here?

Also, once the Dolls are released from their five year contract, and their personalities are restored. However, they still have the active architecture. If their handler came up to them and said, "Madeline, would you like a treatment?", would the former doll still be vulnerable?

Thanks!

No handler for Paul, and the assumption is that Madeline would possibly still be vulnerable, since she was never actually released, just imprinted with "Madeline" as the doll personality.

Hmm, good question.

I got the impression that Paul did not have a handler, because he was imprinted with himself. He was never shown to have a handler. I think it was probably the last thing on their minds as the end game approacheth.

As for the other question... I'm not sure. They definitely said that the Doll architecture is still in place. I guess the question is, once they are let go, is there still something in them that thinks of their handler as their handler? Because if that got deprogrammed I'd say they're safe- that "would you like a treatment" stuff didn't work with any random stranger, did it?

I guess it depends on what the higher ups ordered the programmer to do. I could just see those in charge leaving their former actives vulnerable on purpose.

I say whatever works best for the story. I can imagine the architecture leaving a connection to a handler or creating an automatic connection to who ever you first looked at and touched when you woke from imprinting. I think they would want some type of safety protocol for all former dolls since they were a secret organization.

Didn't notice a handler for Ballard. It's possible one isn't needed if you're not switching imprints, though again, I wonder if he felt differently about the first person he touched.

I don't recall seeing a handler for Paul, though that may have been story-driven....

I can't imagine that TPTB *wouldn't* leave the dolls still vulnerable to suggestion once their terms expired.
