Oh, COOL!!!!

There's a new challenge in the works- Remix Duello. What you do is that in this challenge, you pick ONE story for your remixer to remix. They have to remix THAT STORY. So if you have a fic you desperately want the remix of, this is your chance!

However- there's a catch. If you click on that entry, you'll see that not all fandoms are eligible for this. Which makes sense, right? Anyway, if you want to participate, and you want BSG to be an eligible fandom, GO VOTE!

(ETA: Sorry- I was unclear. Go say you'll participate!!!! This is mainly directed at the BSG writers on my list :) )

(Please? I'm already sorting through with what I might want remixed, although who are we kidding? I totally know. I wouldn't ask someone to remix something long, and I totally want a remixed version of Freaks and Geeks. And there's even someone who's got the comm friended that... I mean, seriously. How awesome would the Helo version of Freaks and Geeks written by sabaceanbabe be??????? ::crosses fingers and holds her breath::)

I am tempted; I admit, but I guess I need to join dreamwidth, which I have been putting off- is all the fandom fun over there now? Have we migrated?

I don't think you have to join dreamwidth- I'm sure as hell holding out! It looks like a lot of it will be held on AO3.

I think a lot of the multi-fandom fun is over there, but it seems like the bulk of the BSG fandom is still over here. Since that's my active fandom, I'm staying put for the time being :) (I also don't get near as worked up about some of the LJ stuff as a lot of people.)

The way the poll is phrased, it isn't "Which fandom do you want to see remixed?" but "Which fandom would you be willing to write?"

Looking over the list, there isn't a lot that I could write, and hence not a lot that I can vote on.

Battlestar Galactica (2003) -- Never saw it. My sole knowledge of it comes from your stories.
Bleach -- Seen it, never wrote it.
DBSK -- Apparently this is a Korean band. Why are they not listed under bandom? Anyway, never heard of it.
DCU -- Well, I do know what the DC Universe is. But I never wrote fanfic about comics.
Dr Who (1963) -- Saw it, wrote in it, never posted anything.
Dr Who (2005) -- Saw it. Love it. I've written 1.5 stories so far.
due South -- Never saw it.
Farscape -- Never saw it.
Firefly -- Saw it. Loved it. Never wrote it.
Glee -- Never saw it.
Good Omens -- Read it. Only wrote one story in it.
Heroes -- Never saw it.
Highlander -- Saw it. Loved it. Wrote a few stories in it. But that's an old fandom. I'm not sure I could write in it anymore.
House -- Saw it. Dropped it. Never wrote in it.
Inuyasha -- Saw two or three episodes. Didn't like it.
Johnny's Entertainment -- Don't know what this is.
Leverage -- Saw a couple of episodes. Never bothered with it.

Sherlock Holmes (2009) -- Haven't seen it. I'm familiar with Sherlock Holmes, but not this version of him.
Smallville -- I've seen it. I didn't like it and never wrote it.

Stargate SG-1 -- Saw it, loved it, never wrote it.
Star Trek: TOS --I wrote tons of stuff in this universe, but all of it was written pre-internet. None of it is online.
Star Trek: TNG -- Seen some of it, never wrote it.
Star Trek: DS9 -- Never saw it.
Star Trek: VOY -- Never saw it.
Supernatural RPF -- Totally NOT my thing.
The West Wing -- I've seen a few YouTube clips. I never saw the show or wrote about it.
Torchwood -- Saw the show and dropped it. Never wrote a story for it.
Weiß Kreuz -- Never saw it. My knowledge of it comes from daegaer's stories.
White Collar -- Saw an episode or two, couldn't get into it.
X Men Comics -- I own ONE X-Man comic. And it's so old that Beast looks like an apish human rather than having blue fur and psychic Jean Gray is calling herself Marvel Girl.
X Men Movieverse -- Never saw it.
Yami No Matsuei -- Never saw it. Or read it, if they're talking about the manga.

So, while I'd love to READ your BSG remix and while I want BSG to be eligible, the poll isn't asking the right question. It wants to know what I'd be able to write. And from what I can see, the answer to that is "absolutely nothing."

Argh- this is true. I phrased it badly here- it should have said "go say you'll play!" (Because that also means a better chance of me getting to remix something that's not a pairing that makes me hyperventilate, although frankly, that doesn't happen THAT much in BSG. But I have to remember that I don't want to offer to write Firefly because of the popularity of Simon/River. No offense to those who ship it, but I so do not.) Anyway- yeah, you're right. It's recruiting people, not getting them to vote on what they'd read.

I'm debating if I'll say I'll write Harry Potter. Probably not, because again, there are pairings that make me whimper. BSG, at least, while it has pairings I'm not fond of... the fandom focuses largely on pairings I don't find repulsive. In fact, given the lack of living family members in the show, I can't think of any that people actually write. (So not a fan of incest pairings.)

Can't you just say that you won't do incest pairings? Or that you won't write a story that encourages rape culture or sexual exploitation?

Nope. What you ARE allowed to do is take a pairing story gen. So, you can't pair the siblings up with anyone else, but you can take all sexual interaction out of it. And you could take a Harry/Snape story and change the tone, and take it from "oooh, teacher/student is HAWT!" and go to "look how terrible Snape is for doing this." But you aren't allowed to pick or choose. The fact you're allowed to gen it up makes most pairings I don't like bearable to me. But I can't even stand to read incest fics with explicit content. BSG I WILL avoid that- there's only two potential incest pairings, and I've never actually seen them written.

I also have a few stories I wouldn't mind putting in this challenge, but I know that the pairings are either squicky or has sexual violence of some sort. Which is something I ought to ask the mods: will stories with rape be off-limits? I don't want to submit one and don't have a problem if I get handed one, but I could see that people a problem for someone else. Personally, I don't care one way or the other as long as it's clear that someone might end up with a fic like that, but yeah. The kamikazeremix, which it sounds like this challenge is based on, is pretty clear about "You could be given ANYTHING- if you can't handle that, don't do this challenge", which I respect.

It seems like it's a fairly restricted challenge, which can definitely be fun. I just want to be sure I don't commit to something I'm not willing to do! :)

This sounds cool, I really like this idea I would like to see some of of my other stories remixed. Plus I like the challenge of having to work on a certain story.

I know! I've got several I'd love to see, although I think one of them is too long. (I'd love to see the Cavil side of "Here On the Hill, Halfway Up, Halfway Down", but asking someone to remix a very long Cavil/Gaeta fic seems cruel :) Also, I looked at the original challenge, and they put a length limit on what story you could ask for. Their limit was 25K, and HOTH is 29K.) I'd love to see the Hoshi side of the Kendra/Hoshi one I just wrote, but imposing Fisk/Hoshi on someone also seems very cruel :) But I've wanted Helo's side of "Freaks and Geeks" ever since I wrote the fic, and as it's gen, I don't feel guilt about begging for that one at all.

And yeah- having to work with a specific story would be interesting! The only thing I HAVE to keep remembering is that there are pairings in 2 of my 3 fandoms I can't stand, and they're popular. I'd volunteer to write Harry Potter, but I can't stand Harry/Draco (or Draco/anyone, really), or Harry/Snape (or Snape/anyone, really.) I'd volunteer to write Firefly, but Simon/River is a very popular ship, and that squicks me to no end. No judgment on those who write any of these- thanks to the miracle of the back button I've never had to read a fic with any of these pairings. But they really... are not my thing.

But in BSG... I mean, I'm not crazy about Kara/Lee, but I am not disgusted by it. I can even handle the time period when they cheated, because their cheating isn't supposed to be viewed as A Good Thing. I'm not that into Adama/Roslin anymore, but I used to be, very much, and if I HAD to, I could work with Season 4.5 Adama. (Plus, Tom likes to sneak into Adama/Roslin fics somehow. Go figure.) I AM a slasher, so slash ships don't bother me in the least, even if I don't ship em. The only two ships that creep me the hell out are Kara/Leoben and Tigh/Caprica. And even among the made up ships... most of them don't seriously bother me. So BSG seems like a safe bet for me.

More BSG people in this challenge is a great thing!!!!

I don't know I think getting the wrong pairing is a risk you take with any remix. Honestly with me its not so much that I don't think I could do anything with a Kara/Lee fic, the problem is I'd want to to Deconstruct the pairing and point out all the ways they think they're wrong for each other, which would probably tick off my recipient. I don't really care that much about what people think but do think you should be respectful in a remix situation and that pissing off the recpipient to push my own agenda goes against the spirit of the remix. I think I'd probably be okay with BSG slash since it pretty much sticks to Gaeta, Zarek and Hoshi which is canonical so it doesn't bother me. Like you I'll probably stick to BSG as my choice.

Although for me the tough question is which of my fic to offer, I'm not sure which one Complications (which is where in TAB Cally tells Kara to stick with Sam) might be interesting (but then again I'd probably just get someone writing for Kara to stick with Lee which I emphatically do not want). Actually I'd really love to offer some of my Jericho fic since it tends to be more plotty and at this point it would be nice just to have something to read.

I'm seriously side eyeing it as I've wanted to have Heavy Soul or The Conqueror Worm remixed since I've posted them and there are even some shows listed there I'd be willing to write for. Buuut, I can get very stalled on pairings(like just anything involving Laura, I'm terrified of writing her because I don't fully "get" her).

So I don't know. But it's an awesome idea :)

Yeah- I totally get that pairing thing. That's why I had to revoke my "I'd write firefly" vote- I forgot about the popularity of Simon/River. If it was just a few people that wrote it, I wouldn't worry, but it's a fairly popular pairing. And yeah, having that problem with Laura... the only one that would be worse is if you had that problem with Kara.

Ah well. It's too bad you can't get a list of potential participants before hand! :)
