Aug. 5th, 2010 03:26 pmIt looks like
remixduello may be a go. :) The mods haven't said what fandoms will be eligible yet. Interestingly I haven't even considered participating in HP. Partly because it's been so long since I've been active in that fandom, and partly because I really dislike writing Snape or Draco, and they're popular enough characters in the HP fandom that getting a fic with one or the other is highly possible. Also, none of my fics in HP beg for remixing like some of my BSG fics do.
Having a bit of a lousy day. The kids have been fine, but I've either got a summer cold or a sinus infection. My head feels like it's been filled with concrete and I just want to sleep. I don't seem to be dropping off, though. Plus, I just want chocolate. Ugh. And yet again, I've tried to make plans with someone- anyone- and no luck. Why is it so hard to find someone for my kid to play with????? (and for me to talk to?) ::Grumble::
Was reading my new EW, and the columnist this time (male) had an article on how few movies these days pass the Bechdel Test. You know, as much as I liked Inception, I did notice it about that. I don't mind so much in Inception- it was really a very small movie, although very few of the roles really had to be one gender or the other. The thing for me is, it seems like movies involving women are still cornered off into SITC/Eat, Pray, Love type things. I want sci-fi, thanks. Women in sci-fi. ::Is ready for Annie and Sabrina and Felicia and Caroline to meet the world, except still researching::
Need to send my rough draft in for
bsg_bigbang. I was hoping to get Chapter 5 done before I submitted, but it won't happen. But I'm really curious to see who will pick my story for art, and what kind of art I'll get. I'm really getting excited about some of the scenes I've written.
I am sort of looking forward to getting back to other things, though. I still want to finish The Struggles Make You Stronger and The House That Tom Built. I'm finding I really want to read/write more about Hoshi in the immediate aftermath of the Space Between Us universe. I'm in the mood for recovery fic. ::Sigh::
Oh well. Back to writing.

Date: 2010-08-07 09:21 pm (UTC)I didn't notice the Bechdel test in Inception because my mind was so reeling from paying such close attention to the plot as in, "What level dream are we in right now?" :-) I really liked that the movie considered the viewer smart and just kept on moving. Yay. :-)
I can't remember the last intelligent movie I've seen with a lot of female characters in it. I don't watch a lot of movies in the theatre. The last movie I saw in the theatre was Shutter Island with Leonard DiCaprio and that was kinda similar to Inception, actually. Funny that.

Date: 2010-08-07 09:36 pm (UTC)I noticed the Bechdel thing with Inception, but I'm not sure I cared much, to be honest. I agree- it was such a rarity to get an intelligent film period!
I do want to see The Kids Are Alright. That's been getting rave reviews, and is a smart type of movie. I liked Juno, too. But yeah, I can't think of too many, either.
And funny about LDC! Howard and I were talking about that the other day, how for all that he's mocked for Titanic, he's really settled into a fairly serious and worthwhile career.

Date: 2010-08-07 09:46 pm (UTC)LDC? I still remember him on Growing Pains. I kinda can't believe it's the same kid. And he's kind more successful than all of the othe other actors on that show! Who knew? And heck, I really liked Titanic. I can't watch it a lot but I did like LDC and Kate in it.
Edited because one BBT icon deserves another. I miss those boys!
