I've been seeing this and debating doing it, but after reading [livejournal.com profile] midnitemaraud_r's fetal pig story, I had to. If you want to be tagged, consider this it!

1.) The fetal pig thing: when I was in 10th grade, my lab partner had a crush on me. We were dissecting the pig, and for some reason talking about Van Gogh. I mentioned the whole ear thing. My lab partner, in a fit of romantic whatever, cut off the pig's ear and gave it to me.

Terrifyingly, I dated him for a while. But only after he asked the 8th time. It lasted two weeks.

2.) My hair started graying when I was in my early 20s.

3.) I used to play the flute in the marching band.

4.) I also used to run cross country. The longest race I ever ran was 15K (9 miles). I hurt my feet pretty badly and had to stop running. I did get one race in as an adult (a 10K), but it re-did that old injury. I actually miss running terribly.

5.) In college, I threw the hammer and the discus. I was a lousy discus thrower, but I was pretty decent at the hammer.

6.) The most romantic gift I've ever recieved was one my husband gave me for my 24th birthday. In April, a group of friends and I went to see the play Picasso at L'Apin Agile. For some reason, he couldn't come with us. (I forget it at this point, but we'd only been dating like 6 months.) We LOVED the play and didn't shut up about it for WEEKS. For my birthday in November (after we'd long since stopped talking about it), he managed to get a copy of the script. I've always thought that was so incredibly romantic, because it really showed he payed attention to what I said.

7.) I was born United Methodist, did a stint in the Lutheran church in grad school, and am now a Baptist. Lutheran was my favorite, though. I'm not crazy about how informal our services are, but I love the pastor and the congregation, and my husband's been going to this church since he was born.

8.) We used to have a dalamation when I was a teenager. She was adorable, although she was definitely a runt. I named her Scarlett. I have since regretted that, since I love the name and would LOVE to one day use it for a daughter, but it's too strongly associated with our dog.

9.) Although I adore my grandmother, the grandparent I had the most in common with is my maternal grandfather. I really miss him sometimes.

10.) I am a damn good cook when I want to be, especially if you're on a diet. (I cook very healthy.) My specialty seems to be low-fat cheesecakes. However, I am not a creative cook. I just follow the recipe.

11.) I have seen the movie "The Doom Generation." I highly recommend that you do not. Seriously. There is NOTHING redeeming about this flick- it's not even so bad it's funny. It's just BAD.

12.) I have been to Canada, Belgium (for a few hours), Greece, and China. That's pretty much my out-of-US travelling.

13.) I am actually an extremely good artist, to the point I almost double majored in it in college, but I have no time to sit down and draw. Which is too bad- it's something else I miss very much.

14.) I had ten roommates in my college years. My first year I lived in a triple (2) and then one roommate went on a semester abroad and we got a new one. (3) My second year I lived in a triple again (5), but again, we switched out a roommate (6), whose replacement left quickly. I had a roommate for the first half of my junior year (7), and then she went kind of nutso on me. Then my senior year, I lived in a quad with three guys (10). Except for the roommate I had all through my freshman year, they were the best roommates I've ever had.

Sadly, I don't speak to any of my roommates anymore. The ones I did like I lost touch with.

But I think roommate 5 and roommate 10 got married.

15.) When we got married, hubby and I proudly flaunted our geekdom. The girls' dresses would have been blue, except the blue was ugly and the purple was much better. The hotel gave us an ice sculpture with our wedding, and we had them do it as a Nittany Lion. Our advisor was the scripture reader. We walked into the reception to the Penn State Fight song. And to top it all off, our favors were beakers full of Hershey's hugs and kisses, wrapped in blue or white netting.

I went to Penn State for grad school. Can you tell?

16.) However, I went to Bates for undergrad. Bates has one of the worst football teams in history- the entire time I was there, they won ONE game, breaking a 40-something game losing streak. (It made national news.) I was in the pep band for the first year, but we were asked to disband. They could handle us playing "Hang on Sloopy" and "All I Need is a Miracle" during the games. They could even handle us playing "The Hallelujah Chorus" when they scored a touchdown. But when we started playing the Mickey Mouse march as they ran out, their patience was snapped. Oops.

17.) I used to fence sabre. I wasn't terribly great at it, but it was a lot of fun.

18.) I can't play chess at all. But I can kick my husband's butt at Scrabble :)

19.) I got interested in Fuel Science when I saw the program described in the Baron's Book of chem grad schools. It looked like a program I could get into. No one at my undergrad really expected me to go all the way to Ph.D., because I was not at all cut out to be a theoretical chemist. However, it turned out I was one of the top students in Fuel Science, and the second woman in the history of the department to win the C.C. Wright award.

20.) I am 30 years old, and yet, I still have tubes in my ears.

Dissecting the pig was the most fun we had in biology class! :-D You didn't keep the ear, did you? *heehee* And my hair started greying about the same time. Only a couple at first that I could scream about and yank out. Been coloring ever since.

Nope- didn't keep the boyfriend, didn't keep the ear :)

And yeah, I've been coloring mine for years, too. Actually, mine went mouse brown when I was 19 because I didn't get outside that summer, and it looked TERRIBLE. I'd been a blonde all my life, and my skin didn't change to match. So I go back to blonde. Makes the grey even less noticable!
