I know. Two updates in one day from me, plus stuff on the communities. I'll put this one behind a cut in just a minute.
As mentioned before, I'm trying to keep to less recced, lesser known authors. Today was another easy day, and today we salute
mackittenx.
I first came across
mackittenx's stuff on Immeritus, which I'm too lazy to look up the address for. It's also where I started writing HP fanfic. Kat was one of the few other active slash writers, so naturally I read all her stuff. I like her fluff, but where Kat really shines is in her angst. (Her archive- which is really, really cool to look at- is here, by the way.)
Stories of Kat's that I like:
You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk, and the sequel Fuck Day. See, this is what I truly, truly love. Good, IC angst (because I can see where Sirius would be a heavy drinker, and where he could become addicted to it, although she sets this in the pre-Azkaban era), followed up by fluff. Yeah. Good stuff. Kat doesn't go over the top, and Sirius and Remus are wonderfully in character. And I'm not just saying I love it because I beta-ed it!
Of Sex and Cigaretttes. One of her newest offerings, and really should be posted on
starcrossedmoon so she can get some more recognition for it. When I'm in a masochistic mood I really like thoughtless Sirius, and he just acts so TEENAGE MALE here that you want to strangle him.
Humour Me. One of her first. Kat's in a really fun place, because she's in a sharp learning curve now and her writing improves dramatically each time she writes. But even in her early stuff you can see the talent she's got, which is always a great sign.
So there you have it: today's pick. Enjoy!
