Means the end of my job. Today's my last day. I'm running around doing all the check out stuff I need to do, and thanks to hormones and the fact I really DID like this job, I had to come in to my office for a minute and sit down and cry. I know I'm doing what's right for me, but that doesn't mean this is an easy day. :P Especially because there are people here I truly, truly like, including my co-worker, my friend who works in IT, and (yes, believe it or not) my boss.

So, to cheer myself up, 10 things I will not miss about my job.

10.) The guy who orders stuff for me. For some reason, he utterly grates on my nerves.
9.) Anything that has to do with selenium. Even seeing the word makes me want to throw up.
8.) My lab. Over 100 degrees in the summer, below 60 degrees in the winter (until they turn the heat on- then it got up to 120 degrees), and utterly filthy.
7.) The bathroom out in my lab. Co-ed and shared with guys who don't understand that the toilet seat moves. I'm not talking about putting it down- I'm talking about putting it UP.
6.) Being a test subject for any time the food lab needs people to test samples. Like an ice cream makes up for some of the stuff we've had to eat.
5.) Heritage Days. They're kind of cool... if you're not supposed to be working then.
4.) Seminars. One of the guys in my group calls them Sleepinars. For every ten you go to, nine tend to be boring and completely unrelated to your researh.
3.) Washing lab dishes.
2.) Worrying that my exhaust system on my engine is going to fall down at any moment.
1.) THE COMMUTE!!!!!!!!

As a fed, I sympathize with you on the commute and the inaneness of sleepinars (excellent word!).

I wish I could claim credit for sleepinars! It does hit the nail on the head, doesn't it? :)

The last day is always hard--you never think the day will come and then it's here, and you feel like you're about to step off the cliff into the unknown. I fully understand that. (((hugs)))

I always found seminars were *prime* sleeping times. Once I perfected the art of sleeping with my eyes open, it was a great way to catch up on naps.

Plus, I like some of the people :)

But yeah, I so won't miss seminars. (Of course, I was known to write and pretend I was taking notes...)

Damn, that suggestion comes ten years too late for me...

I always wonder why women make such a big deal of the seat going down, when really I think they'd prefer men made sure it was up in the first place! ;)

Sorry it's a heavy day, Lissa, but you need to do this, and think of how happy a little family you're going to have in a very short time. Personally, I think I'd love that trade.

Yeah, I'd rahter they master the first!

Thanks, Pooly. I know I'll be glad about the trade too, and probably sooner than the two months before he's born!

*hugs*

actually I never minded washing glassware when I worked in a lab, though I never knew quite what they'd used them for.. O_o

yeah, government fiscal year budgets with no rollover for certain positions is furstrating. Hope your next position doesn't have such a commute!
