No, not my art, although I've spent a good portion of the day painting a zebra.

I've FINALLY found a decent picture of Rufus Scrimgeour! It's by [livejournal.com profile] caladan_dd and can be seen here. I normally don't go searching out her work because she's a very R/T oriented artist, but she really does beautiful stuff.

Why do I remotely care about Rufus Scrimgeour, whose name I had to write down in order to even spell correctly? Honestly? I don't. (Except I was right that he'd be someone who was anti-Voldemort and still not make things easy for Harry and a bit Barty Crouch-ish, in that he ordered more severe methods of dealing with potential Death Eaters, but I thought the MoM would be Amos Diggory. Anyway.) But Damien Lupin was based on the Lion Man description that ended up being Scrimgeour, so I've been keeping an eye out for any artist impressions of him. (If anyone finds any others, please tell me.)

This is pretty close, actually, to how I picture Damien in the HBP timeline. (Not that we've ever seen him there, but hey.) The robes are much more ornate, but Damien in HBP timeline is a.) no longer an Auror and b.) supposed to not have much money. Not poor, mind you, but not remotely rich. And definitely the shagginess fits that timeframe. But what I find really interesting is if you compare her version of Scrimgeour to her version of Remus. They could be father and son, couldn't they? I don't think I was the only one who got the whole idea of the Lion Man being Remus's father, and when you look at the few pieces of art out there, I think you can see why.

Anyway, it's not dead on, but I'm just pleased that I can finally say I really like one of her pieces. She's a fabulous artist, but we all know how I feel about R/T.

I like her Tonks, but for some reason her Remus looks weird to me.

Yeah, her Remus doesn't quite work for me, either. Nothing like I picture him. (I do like her Tonks though.) Beautifully rendered, but the closest I've seen to my vision of Remus is in the icon I've got here. I like Tina Ling's Remus very much, even if she does go for the animated Disney style.

Every time I see her Remus, I think, "Wow, he doesn't look anything at all like Remus, but he does look a lot like how I imagine Cazaril from The Curse of Chalion." And judging from her most recent post, I'm not the only one who thought so. Funny, that.

What color are you painting it, and why hasn't it tried to run away? ;)

I think she's a gorgeous artist, but I don't agree with her view of Remus at all. On the other hand, I do think that her Scrimgeour and her Remus look like they could well be related, so if that (her Scrimgeour) closely matches your Damien, I can see that.

Incidentally, I cannot for the life of me recall where Scrimgeour/Lion Man is mentioned in OotP. Can you point me?

He doesn't get mentioned in OotP. Fudge was still the MoM.

Have friended you btw :)

*waves* :D

I know Fudge was still MoM, but given the way Scrimgeour is mentioned in HBP, and the way he's referred to periodically by others, I get the impression there's a passing mention of him in his prior job in OotP (kind of like how Sirius got a passing mention in PS/SS, but didn't become important until PoA). However, I can't recall where this passing mention might be. Maybe in the scene where Arthur takes Harry to the Ministry? I'll have to hunt further.

he's mentioned as head of the Aurors.. at some point. I think you may be right, I think it is where Arthur takes Harry to the Ministry

I don't think he did get mentioned. Remeber when there was all that speculation about who would become the new MoM? If we had known about Rufus whathisname, who by all accounts was fairly high up in the Ministry and respected at the time, he would have been mentioned by someone in OotP - either at a Order meeting or in passing.

Maybe it all happened off screen. Stupid Harry and his lack of interest in politics ;)

He only gets mentioned once, just in passing (chapter 7):

Lupin glanced at Harry, then said to Tonks, 'What were you saying about Scrimgeour?'
'Oh . . . yeah . . . well, we need to be a bit more careful, he's been asking Kingsley and me funny questions . . .'

I've been looking through [livejournal.com profile] caladan_dd's art - I didn't really have a clear mental image of Scrimgeour before, but I like her version very much. Her Dumbledore also looks very much like I'd always pictured him. Most of other characters don't, but that's very much a matter of personal interpretation, I guess.

I stand corrected :D And I haven't read OotP for a while. It's my least favourite of the series, so I only really uses if for canon checking :)

There, there *pats shoulder*

I do like her eye for colour, and the rich jewelled tones, and just her general artistry, but her facial features tend to be a bit heavy.

How long will you still be working on your WIPs? I'd like to read them when they are done, but when will they be?! *prods you*

Green. And I've got it tied down.

I'm still working! :) I seem to be a bit dried up on fiction these days. :P But each piece is slowly expanding....

honestly, Caldan's Rufus is more of my image of Remus, hmm... it's the eyebrows as far as I can tell that throw me off with her paintings :D

and yeah, the R/T is before everything went wrong in that relationship (a fic I've got next on my list to write)

Oh Scrimgeour looks awesome in that pic. :D And he could be Damien...(honestly, if Remus's father does show up in the last book somehow and he's named anything other than Damien I'll kick something. I'm so damn used to calling him that...)
Cool pic. Though you're right, her Remus doesn't look at all like Remus O_o Reminded me of the paintings of Jesus I've seen. Dunno why.
