Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] marilla82!!!! :) Hope you have an absolutely wonderful one.

I keep feeling like I should post later today, but I have no idea why. My two priorities today are the presentation my old boss wants and finish painting the nursery- it's not like I'll get any writing done of any sort. Bleh :P

Going to see Jarhead tonight. It doesn't seem like my normal movie, but it's got Jake Gyllenhaal AND Chris Cooper... together. You have to understand, October Sky is one of my favorite movies of all time. That's a combination that will successfully lure me.

Also, I think it's really, really funny that Chris Cooper once studied ballet. Actually, it makes my brain hurt.

Back to biodiesel :P

October Sky is one of the most wonderful movies ever. Have you read the Rocket Boys book, or the sequel? Amazing stuff in there - they did change a bit for the film, for dramatic reasons, but the real story is wonderful as itself.

October Sky turns me into a big sap and I get all weepy. Wonderful movie. I'm curious about Jarhead, but scared to see it. It looks a bit depressing, -- duh, war -- but it has still peeked my curiosity.

Rocket Boys is one of those books I own and need to read. I actually have a signed copy- my brother went to VT, where Homer Hickman went, and got him to sign a copy for me when he came back to speak. (I was so jealous. My brother got to meet him- especially since Hickman used to captain the same canon crew my brother captained at the time.) I keep meaning to read it- I've heard it's substantially different. (But I love the movie anyway! Best science pick-me-up flick ever!)

I love October Sky, especially the scene at the end where Homer tells his father that he's his hero. (And Chris Cooper... I adore Chris Cooper.)

Jarhead was actually pretty awesome. I didn't find it that depressing at all, really. It was actually very interesting and a very different sort of war movie, which was appropriate, given that the Gulf War was a very different sort of war. There was no real violence or anything like that in the movie (which was actually the point). And actually, it was pretty funny.

The language was absolutely terrible, but it was funny :)

And oh yeah- Jake Gyllenhaal running around in nothing but two Santa hats was pretty nice to watch as well ;)

You're welcome! Glad you had such a good one!

And yeah- October Sky was the movie we always watched when grad school was going bad. It's such a pick-me-up movie for science.

Dare I ask where exactly he had the hats positioned? Never mind -- I'll dream on it. ;)
