Three things in a lightning update:
1.) Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who's wished us well on the birth of Lupinslittlenephew here! It amazes me how warm a place the Internet can be, especially when you've never even seen some of the peoples' faces. LLN is doing absolutely wonderfully, although he still flat-out refuses to nurse. ::Sigh:: However, we've called the lactation consultants, so we'll see what happens next. He is exclusively drinking breast milk because I pump it, but life would be a LOT easier if he'd actually nurse.
I shouldn't complain though, as he'll sleep a 5-6 hour stretch at night! :) (For now!)
ETA: The lactation consultant just called back. This is so not going to be fun. It will likely take two weeks to get him to nurse, and those two weeks are likely to be hellish, from the sounds of things. She says it's nipple confusion, but I'm not convinced that's his entire problem. The little guy just did NOT want to do it from the beginning. It's not he can't find it or can't latch or falls asleep. No. It's he pushes me away and screams and cries and pretty much refuses. ::Sigh:: These next two weeks are going to be miserable, aren't they?
2.) A pimp: a new community called
omniocular. It's entirely gen, and invite only. However, they are also doing something very cool, which is accepting applications. (Personally, I really like this approach, because I do think there are great writers out there that get overlooked by the mods of communities for one reason or another- they don't write the situations or era or whatever that the mods are more likely to read, or the mods can only read so many new authors, etc.) So check it out!
3.) Artwork! Secret Plasures over at FAP made me the most adorable and seasonal piece of AIL fanart: you can see it here. It's totally G-rated and completely work-safe, and given that I just posted the commentary for Part 2 of AIL... anyway, it's definitely smile-worthy. Go see it.
Okay. Must go call my insurance company before the Ducklet wakes up from his nap. And call off the nine ladies dancing- all that racket will drive the neighbors insane. Although then they can't hear my crying little bottlefeeder ;)

Date: 2005-12-18 02:20 pm (UTC)And yeah, I'm usually really reluctant to wake him! He only sleeps the one long stretch (and not always six hours- sometimes it's four, which is still pretty good), but he's getting plenty of food as evidenced by the number of diapers and the log we keep, so.... Sleep away during the night, baby!

Date: 2005-12-16 09:29 pm (UTC)I'm so sorry that the nursing is not going well. Kudos to you for calling a lactation consultant, and I wish you the best with that. It certainly would make things easier if you could get him to cooperate. However it turns out, you gave it your best.
Take care, all of you!
