First, before I get into it, two things:

Happy birthday (a day late) to [livejournal.com profile] heidi8!!! Hope it's a wonderful one, and involves good chocolate lava cake!!!!

If you missed it, Accidentally In Love has been updated (FINALLY)- update is here. The next update should not be nearly so long in coming. Now that I know Regulus IS actually important. (For all you Regulus lovers, chapter 10 and chapter 11 should really make you happy.)

Anyway. I got to see Brokeback Mountain this weekend!!!!!!! I'm not cutting because there's no spoilers- I'm saving most of my reactions for my review. But can I just say how wonderful it was just to get out of the house? Howard's best friend married a REALLY great girl not all that long ago, and she and I have similar taste in movies. So Howard and Chris stayed home with Toby and played video games, and Jess and I went to the movies. All were happy.

I also discovered that my bladder is somehow connected to my tearducts. I drank a small (HA!) Coke during the movie, and by the end I had to pee so badly that even though I knew the movie was affecting me, all I could think was "I have to pee!" Then I went to the bathroom, and as the pressure came off my bladder I started crying. And even as I think about the movie later... it's the kind of thing that hits you gradually. And then over and over again.

Beautiful movie, wonderful acting. I liked Jake Gyllenhaal's performance better than Heath Ledger's, but I think that has to do with their characters. I also think that Gyllenhaal is totally charming. And to be honest, I'm still on my Jarhead kick. Jarhead was TOTALLY ignored by the Golden Globes and will probably be ignored by the Oscars, but it gets my award for Best Movie of 2005. And yes, even over Brokeback.

Many more thoughts will follow in a proper review for MRFH, but I want a shower before Toby wakes up. :)

BTW: [livejournal.com profile] pfrsue, have you written your Brokeback Mountain review yet? (In other words, do I need to do the extras, or do you want help with the extras?)

Argh, I want to see that movie!
I don't think it was even announced here. Then again, with my lack of knowledge about movies, I might've just missed it.

It should be out on DVD though at some point. Oscar bait- all the way. That might make it get to DVD a little quicker, so it can stay fresh in people's minds!

I saw it too. Although I thought it was pretty fantastic while I was watching it, I think it's better with every passing hour. It just sticks with me. I can't let go of it. Images from the movie, thoughts about the situation...they just keep popping up. I couldn't choose a favorite performance from the movie. Everyone was so incredible. Honestly, the one that keeps coming back to me the most is Jack's mother.

When I saw Jack's parents, I wanted to whack Jack over the head. If he had just TOLD Ennis about his parents, maybe things could have worked out a bit different. But then, maybe Jack didn't realize his parents knew exactly what he was and accepted it. Silly boys.

It does keep coming back to me though. Very powerful movie.

Never you fear. I turned in the review last Wednesday, including extras. If you want, I'll send you my quotes and didja notice stuff so we don't overlap. (I have two reviews in right now, so I don't know which one will be posted first.) Let me know.

I won't toss in any spoilers except to agree that it's the sort of movie that sticks in your craw. I saw it last Monday and I still haven't been able to get it out of my mind. Powerful, powerful stuff.

I mean, props to Heath for his Ennis, but Jack Twist stole my heart and hasn't given it back. Definately getting the DVD for this movie for sure.

Agreed. I've said this before, but I'll say it again here. I want Jake Gyllenhaal as a birthday present. With cowboy hat and tight jeans. Shirt is optional. *sigh*

(Don't mind the words on my icon. The picture was appropriate.)

And I've said it before but I'll say it again :) Two Santa Claus hats and nothing else in Jarhead. It's a very, VERY nice sight.

That's exactly how I felt about it. As soon as Heath found the shirt I started shaking and wasn't the same until the next morning. *sigh*

And I also think Jarhead was much better than it's being recognized as. Jake's acting in that was breath taking. Just that scene with the gun. Agh.

Oh, the shirts! ::sniffle::

Jarhead is being majorly ignored. I actually wanted Jake nominted as lead actor for that. And yeah- the scene with the gun... frankly, even though I thought he was excellent in BBM, he was beyond that in Jarhead. ::sighs:: Stupid awards people.

(And I really need to make a Jarhead icon without the profanity!)

Thanks for the sweet wishes!
Lucky you for seeing bbm - I haven't yet.... Alas.

Oh for sure. I had a delayed reaction--didn't start crying (though boy was I shaking) until after I'd left the theatre and walked around for a while.

While I did prefer Heath Ledger's performance, I was impressed by Jake's sheer tenderness in his portrayal. Just--wow.

They were both excellent. I think I just like Jack's character better than Ennis's. I will say they were both perfectly cast- they certainly couldn't have really switched roles, and Jake was perfect for Jack Twist. (Although I've heard the character in the story is a little less attractive ;) )

Heh. I got the impression from the story that Jack was a little roly-poly, with buck teeth. Umm, that's not Jake...

I'll always be an Ennis fangirl though. (shrugs)
