God, if Toby would keep this pattern up, I'd be a happy, happy camper. He went to bed at 10:30-11:00 last night, and slept until 6:30. He took a bottle and then went back to sleep. Heaven. Absolute heaven. And now that I'm pretty much healed from the surgery, I actually have the energy to get up at 6:30 and do things for me. I got a workout in!

While I was working out, I listened to my Six of One, Half Dozen of the Other CD. I've forgotten just how much Marillion kicks ass. I need to pull my Marillion CDs out more often. I also haven't bought any of the newer ones- I admit I prefer Fish over Steve Hogarth just a bit. It's funny that the producers had a toss up between promoting them and Genesis- the lead singer changeover is so similiar. (Even to the extent of both Fish and Peter Gabriel going on to have solo stuff I really like.) If people must write songfic, why can't they use Marillion? (Of course, I mainly read MWPP, and Marillion didn't really appear until 1982. But still.)

Switching topics completely...

I really love that rare review where someone sees something in your character or fic that you didn't intend to put there, but at the same time you did and it works. I got this comment on FAP on AIL 10:

though it seems rather reckless to read We the Living while just inside the Soviet border. Much to my surprise, I kind of like your Regulus already.

I never thought about it, but he's right. I just thought it was funny for Regulus to be reading We the Living. That's so cool :)

And yes, I'm deliberately steering towards the shallow today. Between my grandmother and the fact today would have been my dad's 57th birthday, shallow is good. Definitely loving the shallow.

Seriously. Someone needs to write a fic for "Warm Wet Circles." Or a Peter fic called "Uninvited Guest."

ETA: Just for the record? Writing a good Regulus is hard. I mean, the guy essentially committed suicide because he couldn't stand what he'd done, but that's not quite it either. How can a character that gets three frigging mentions be so complicated?

Yeah, I love it when people notice stuff like that too. I have to stop myself from being like, "Oh yeah, of course it was intentional..." :D

I can imagine that Regulus is increadibly difficult to write. Poor li'l guy.
I like the titles, but I think that 'Uninvented Guest' would be a good title too, which is what I thought it said at first.

I love being Dyslexic sometimes.

Hurray for getting in a work-out! I managed that yesterday myself. And I'm glad to hear you're feeling healed, it's such a relief, isn't it?

How can a character that gets three frigging mentions be so complicated?

That's exactly why he's so complicated. So much is left for us to figure out on our own, there are tons of scenarios and situations to mull over, the whys and the hows and all that ... I think it makes it kinda fun. If aggravating. I sort of feel that way about Peter too, honestly. We have a lot more to go on with him, of course, but I haven't read to many fics that give me a satisfactory look at what he was thinking and why. Which is understandable, as it had to be a long way down before he became what he was.

Hee- in terms of your icon- at her hair? God, they gave Anne Hathaway the worst hairstyles! (Although very 80s.)

Yup. There were a couple things this guy noticed that WERE intentional (like Remus's number being from a date), but that one wasn't one. But it was cool, so I wish I could say it was!

Why? in my universe, here's why...

Because he's a Black.
Because Sirius was too smart to have a completely stupid brother.
Because Snape had more influence over him than Barty or Bella.
Because he couldn't stand for that parvenu Malfoy to have the degree of power that Malfoy so desperately wanted.
Because he didn't want Narcissa's son - his godson, Draco, to be subservient to a half-blood.
And definitely not because he was secretly in love with Lily. Narcissa, on the other hand...

There ought to be a challenge with cool titles, and "Uninvented Guest" should be one of them. That would be cool.

And I do want to hug Regulus. But he'd shoo me off and insist he was too manly to need a hug.

It's a huge relief!

I feel that way about Peter, too. And if I was going to do a remix of my own stuff and WIPs were eligble, I'd rewrite AIL from Peter's POV.

Have you read "Running Close to the Ground"? I believe that's a Peter fic. [livejournal.com profile] geheri, I believe. I've heard it's very good, but I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Oooo. I like some of those reasons! (I also like not secretly in love with Lily.) Especially the godson idea. That's just... especially when you consider that Harry is Sirius's godson, I love that. Such beautiful symmetry.

All I can say is that after working on this chapter, I TOTALLY agree that there should be hundreds more Regulus fics- especially ones that have nothing to do with sex. ::hugs Regulus::

You have a pretty interesting Peter and I love his cleverness. You have so much on your plate, or I beg you for an outtake from AIL in his point of view. I feel I understand his surface motivations, but not some of his deeper ones. And I'd love to learn more about Tina, who I've had serious reservations about ever since she showed up at the Lupin place. And it seems Peter's POV would be the best vehicle for that.

Those are some wonderful reasons. And actually quite plausible, too.

Thanks for teaching me such a neat new word: parvenu.

Regulusssss

Regarding Regulus's three mentions...

Very true what you say but the three times he is mentioned create an entire storyline unto itself! And a good one at that because us fangirls luuuuuuurve angst.

I've got two chaps of my Sirius/Regulus fic written, one has been beta'd and the other is in the process. I can't wait to have you read it and tell me what you think!

I envy people who can write many different stories at once! Gah, this thing has me totally engrossed in it.

Oh & PS - Yeah for Toby! (& mom getting some me-time!)

Hee, thanks for the compliments! And yes, I really think Lucius is a parvenu - I have this whole scenario-concept that he was like Snape in terms of not having pots of money while in school - it would explain his rivalry with Arthur Weasley a bit more, I think, than she has in canon - and that Sirius was betrothed to Narcissa, and it was broken when he left Grimmauld Place (whether he left for Werewolf Half-Blood Boyfriend or not is one's own personal perspective) and at that point, there was a Need for a Pureblood Spouse for her, and Lucius was one of the few eligiable options, bloodwise if not social-standing-wise, and a main reason for his throwing in his lot with Voldemort was that his ascention to power would've given Lucius a degree of autonomous power separate from his wife's family, sort of in a Jack-Twist-must-prove-himself-to-the-family kind of way.

And that's the unexpected BBM-HP comparison of the day.
