Mar. 9th, 2006 07:28 amWell, things are already getting better on the isolation melancholy front. I've been making it a point this week to get out each day, even if it's just to run an errand. Plus, it's been nice enough to go for walks. There's a woman in my neighborhood that has a baby boy two weeks younger than Toby, and we ran into her yesterday, which was great. We don't really know each other, but I suspect we will over the course of the next few years just because of how close in age our boys are. While there's other little boys in the development, a lot of the ones that were born this year won't start school the same time as our boys, because our boys are December babies.
Anyway, we were talking and I think I need to switch over to fast flow nipples. I'm really not convinced Toby's getting enough to eat these days. His intake has dropped off, and he seems hungry about an hour after he's finished eating. But I think what happens is he gets bored eating, because there's so much else he wants to be doing. I'm not sure. And not to be gross or TMI or anything, but his poop output seems to be decreasing slightly. Has anyone switched from slow to fast flow nipples? Do you remember what age you did it at?
He's also getting to the point where he's afraid of strangers. He burst into tears at the sight of my sister-in-law the other day, and every time he sees my mother-in-law, he cries. I feel terribly, because he does cry for my mother-in-law more than anyone else, and I think she's starting to take it personally. I really like my mother-in-law (I'm very lucky that way!), and she's actually really good with kids. I'm not sure what his problem with her is. He HATES being held by her, though (although he doesn't struggle. Just cries). My mother-in-law is a bigger lady, so I sometimes wonder if he's just not comfortable. (I also sometimes wonder if he just doesn't like the smell of her deoderant. I can usually smell it, and it's not unpleasent, but it's not to my liking, either.) The church seems to have decided he's teething because he just cried at the Fellowship Supper last night, but I kind of wonder if that didn't have to do with him not taking a nap all day....
But anyway. Howard's been gone all week, and I REALLY hope Toby doesn't cry at the sight of him, because that would just break Howard's heart. Fortunately, Howard's VERY involved with him, so hopefully that won't happen.
On a related kid-note, I finally had a chance to read The Maddest House AU that everyone is talking about. (I can't remember how to spell the author's name right now and am too lazy to check, but if you want it, let me know.) While I enjoyed the R/S aspects and the plot very much, what I REALLY got a kick out of was how Harry was written. One of the best Harry-as-a-toddler versions I've ever seen. (I particularly liked him informing Sirius that he wasn't a tomato.)
Remix is coming along. I'm finally having the discipline to cut certain scenes. I want to get writing some other stuff, as well, so this HAS to get done so I can get it in on time. I really want to get back to AIL because I finally figured out a couple of things. I know the plot, but it's one thing to say "Remus and Regulus go to the Soviet Union to steal an artifact of Rasputin's" and another to actually write the darn thing, you know?
On a final note, if anyone gets Cooking Light, I highly recommend the chicken and sausage jambalaya and the very berry tarts in this month's issue. Skill-wise, I'd call them both medium easy. Time and complication wise, I'd call them medium to medium long. If anyone wants the recipes, let me know and I'll post.
Guess I should get something accomplished today!

Date: 2006-03-10 01:35 am (UTC)Yay for finding another mom with a same-age kid!
And - if you find the link to the fic you're recommending, could you share that? I haven't been reading much fic lately, but that sounds pretty good, and I don't know a thing about it.

Date: 2006-03-10 02:35 pm (UTC)And I posted the link in the next entry, because someone else was asking. I think you'll get a kick out of it- it's pretty clear the author either has kids or spends a lot of time around them. Not the standard "cute" stuff for little kids, but the constant plea to read the same book 46 times in a row and the legos underfoot and.... It's definitely worth it.
