"All the MWPP stuff out there is Remus/Sirius."

No it isn't. HA!

Funny that [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum is doing her R/S amnesty, and what am I doing? Reccing two non-shippy pieces.

First, it's been pimped, but hey. [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain is writing a hysterical fic called Correspondence Course. Young MWPP, great humor, and an intelligent Sirius that is teaching himself German. (There are many R/S writers who could take note of that particular characterization.)

The other is being sadly neglected (as far as I can tell), but [livejournal.com profile] daylightsparks wrote a lovely LLAL period fic called The Soldiering Life, which focuses on Sirius dealing with PTSD after Azkaban. Very well done, very mature, and very melancholy.

As advertised, neither are shippy pieces at all- they're gen, as far as I can tell- but good plotty stuff, so I think a lot of people on this list would like them.

In other news, Toby is teething. Lucky us. Lucky him. Poor little guy screamed for like an hour last night. We're getting Oragel today. On the bright side, he DID let my mother in law hold him and didn't cry for a bit. Thank GOD.

Two big goals this week: must finish presentation, and must finish Remix. Plus I'd like to get a review out. Then I can get back to AIL. Whoohoo!

Teething already? Poor kid. (And see, here's yet another advantage to the bottle - he's not chewing on you. ;) )

Oragel is good for immediate relief, but it doesn't last very long, so be sure to follow it up with baby Tylenol (or equivalent).

Also, consider heading to Babies R Us or WalMart to get a vibrating teether. It's the only thing either of our girls was interested in when they were teething. None of the usual chilled beads or whatever. But they loved that vibrating thing.

Oooh. thanks for the rec! I feel so bad for the poor little guy. What really sucks for him rightnow is that he can't grip things too well, so some of the teethers are really hard for him and aren't much use. I'm a bit amused, because Howard is rapidly dropping his binky aversion- Toby can chew on those and it gives him some relief. Since he doesn't have teeth yet, we're not too worried about him chewing it apart and choking, and hopefully by the time the teeth finally break through he'll have something else to chew on.

Sorry about the teething. I wish I had great advice, but I don't. Joey was the worst, and nothing helped except constant chewing. Of course, at night, nothing helped until he was 6 months and we could give him Motrin. Then he was able to sleep through it. D and T never had it quite so bad. Good luck!

And I'm going to check out those stories you recced. They sound like good ones.

Thanks! I'm hoping he won't be too bad with it- for his sake as much as ours- but we'll see!

And definitely check out the stories. The Correspondence Course is a definite pick me up (which is good, because The Soldiering Life is rather depressing!)

You're welcome- I must admit I'm really looking forward to part 3!

I really enjoyed the second one as well- there's a lack of good fic in that timeframe (shippy or non, really), and it's such an interesting period. And I loved that for once it wasn't "poor saintly Remus who endured 12 years without Sirius", but was focused on the hell Sirius went through, because Lord knows his was worse long-term!
