Kevin got voted off American Idol last night. I am so glad. It's not remotely that I hate the kid- I think he's got talent and he seems like a really nice kid, and he sure has a lot of guts and poise for someone that young, and a great sense of humor. But I'd hate to see him become a major joke, which was what was happening. I mean, the kid is sixteen (maybe seventeen) and is out there giving it his all. No, he's not as good as some of the others. In fact, I think he knew it and knew he wasn't going to win. I had the impression last night he was also grateful to be voted off. Besides, I remember that poor Jon Stevens kid getting death threats, which was just awful.
Of course, it's not that I remotely mind people making jokes about or mocking American Idol contestants. I still think Constantine looked like an unwashed hobbit, and hubby and I actually watched the show less when he was voted off because we had no one to mock anymore. And my mocking this year is largely directed at Kellie, because it really irritates me that she's playing up the stupid bit. If you want to do naive, do it like Bucky. He admits his inexperience, but he also takes the trouble to try to sound intelligent when he's talking about new things. Don't do the ditz bit- it sets women back everywhere. :P (And I don't think she's all that attractive. Katherine is the beauty queen this year, but Mandisa is a gorgeous woman as well.)
My favorite is still Chris. I want a single of his version of "Walk the Line." That was totally awesome. I know some people would call it "one trick pony", but all I can say is this: Bo Bice on musical night last year. There's nothing wrong with knowing your strengths and playing to them. I mean, I don't want to hear Chris sing country, or someone like Barry Manilow sing hard rock, you know? If it hadn't worked, I wouldn't be so impressed, but the trick was he made it work completely, and that takes guts. I'm also liking Mandisa, Taylor (Toby's favorite), and Elliot. And if Ace just stood there and smiled, I'd be perfectly happy. He might not be the best singer, but he sure is pretty.
Okay. Off to shower and write. Oh- also- does anyone know where I can get some funny Firefly icons?
