Sometimes I hate people, and sometimes I love them. And FAP is such a wonderful place to find total idiots.

I was looking around on the CS R/S thread, because sometimes they have REALLY good points about cliches. (Heck, I've been known to post there about things I don't like.) And as I was reading, I found this charming statement:

I was on fanfiction.net, looking for Marauder fanfics (which used to be my favorite kind) and then I saw the fanfiction with the summary that went something like, "Remus and Sirius share a tent together. Things happen. A little funny, a little angsty, a little-er-sexy." I almost gagged. Without even reading the story, I left the author a review that went something along the lines of, "Get a life! You're making me lose respect for two characters I love: Sirius and Remus!"

Does it need a comment? Fortunately, LadyEowyn and Patil very classily (and yet, especially in Patil's case, firmly) replied to the poster about how that's NOT cool, despite the fact that both of them don't like the R/S ship. Much more effective, I think, coming from non-shippers than shippers.

In other real-life insanity, a stranger in the liquor store tried to get me to let her hold my baby yesterday. She was working there and I think she was just trying to help me (and she thought the baby was cute), but still- she was a stranger. There is just no way I am putting a six-month old baby into the hands of someone I don't know!

What's really sad is that I even had to be scared. :P

Nothing weird about not letting strangers hold a baby! Goodness: aside from all the horror stories you hear, there are the more mundane matters of germs and actually knowing how to hold a baby. Just smile and say, 'No, she/he throws up all over the place if held the wrong way' (I used to babysit for a kid like that....) No matter how cute, people will avoid a known Vomiter.

Oooh, that's a good one! Yeah, puking kids do tend to keep people at bay!!!! Nice way to fend off clearly well-meaning people. Thanks!

dude, I won't even leave a comment like that for someone who ships DD/Hagrid.

Exactly. There are a ton of ships I can't stand, and usually, they're pretty easy to avoid because the author labels them in the headers. And in this case, it was labeled very clearly.

Some people are just idiots. ::Sigh::

Nice to see her getting the smackdown for flaming, but it's a shame the 'homosexuality in a children's book is wrong, wrong, wrong,' line when unchallenged. Oh, wait, I forgot--saying stuff like that isn't remotely homophobic. *twitches*

I never like Molly y'know. ;D

The thing is that if a R/S shipper calls her on that bit, it just fuels the stereotype that R/S shippers think that all non-R/S shippers are OMG homophobes. Which of course isn’t true. It’s whatever floats your boat really :)

Actually I think that entire stereotype comes form R/S shippers calling people out when they are being homophobic. I've never seen anyone make that accusation against other fen without good cause.

I stand corrected then. I have seen slash fans in general be a bit tetchy about other fen and generally overreacted a little bit.

I haven't either; or if I have, it was so long ago that I've forgotten about it already. I don't care if people say something along the lines of "I hate Sirius/Remus because I think they're just completely wrong for each other", but if it's along the lines of "I hate Sirius/Remus because the thought of them having sex is just...wrong", I suspect homophobia.

I thought it came from the R/S shippers who called JKR homophobic for not writing their pairing in during the aftermath of HBP?

That certainly made it worse, because it made the argument that R/S shippers call non-R/S shipping fen homophobic sound a lot more likely, but the stereotype was going around before HBP IIRC.

Unfortunately, I have. :P It's rare, but it's that vocal batshit minority that the rest of us wish would just get off our ship. ::sigh::

Good ol' [livejournal.com profile] a_t_rain came through on that one :) I rather thought she might.

Yeah, but you've NEVER liked Molly, have you? It's not just an R/S thing? I adore Molly, personally, because she's SO much like my mother, but I know she does get under people's skins. And there's a difference between not liking Molly and deciding she's the antichrist for playing matchmaker. It baffles me that so many people have to say Molly never approved of Remus and Sirius. What about them just being very private and she never knew?

Yeah, it was the way Molly talked to Sirius in OotP that really turned me off her (I'd started to get annoyed with her in GoF after the way she was with Hermione over the Rita Skeeter article, but it was her comment about Azkaban that made me really mad).

Molly comes across as a stereotypical 'Daily Mail reader' to me--I don't know what the American equivalent would be, though I'm sure there probably is one. Her disapproving of R/S would be in keeping with her character, I think. She's judgemental about other people's relationships, didn't like Sirius, and tends to have knee-jerk reactions to thinks she isn't familiar with, so it wouldn't surprise me if she was a bit homophobic. She may have never known, but if they kept it that much of a secret, there's a reason for that, y'know? Homophobia is a pretty common prejudice.

See, that doesn't bug me nearly as much, because it's something that truly is in the books, whereas "Molly is stomping on Remus and Sirius's love!" isn't, as much as I wish it was.

Molly doesn't bother me, because I see her and Sirius as both very much alike in certain ways, and actually needing each other. I've always had it in my head that Molly and Sirius have this unspoken dynamic where they're allowed to snap at each other and be rather nasty, kind of as a stress relief. They're outlets for each other. They seem to get along well enough otherwise. I could see her having a knee-jerk reaction to a homosexual relationship, though. (Heck, it drives me nuts even more when Molly's all fawning over them and thinking it's cute.)

The way I have the boys in my head, they kept it pretty secret the first time around because of the homophobia, and because they didn't think it was a big deal. The second time around, they kept it secret because it was private and it was theirs, and they're really both private people. (For all that Sirius is open, he never tells Harry much about his life unless Harry actually asks. True, probably because the books aren't Sirius Black and the... but still.) Plus, I can see them being very tentative the second time around, because there's just so much baggage there. Not really advertising until they know they're on fully stable ground, y'know?

And then Sirius got eaten by a curtain anyway :P

Why would they lose respect for Sirius and Remus because of an S/R fic? Because they're homophobic, or because they hate the pairing? *wonders*

I hate it when people purposefully find fics they know they won't like so they can leave bad reviews. I mean, I think Remus/Tonks is craptacular, craptacular, no words in the venacular, but I'm not going to go harrass people who like it.

My mom told me once that a stranger tried to hold me too when I was a baby.

Exactly. Heck, I hate H/D and I won't even post on the thread on VENOM. I just ignore it. (I post for R/T because I can't ignore it, given that its canon)
