I'll hopefully keep updating this, but I thought I would start compiling a list of gen fics and R/S fics from [livejournal.com profile] reversathon, with a bit of commentary. These aren't recs- they're just a list of everything that's there. If you're interested,

Gen

The Garden by Syphronie Latrimouille. Snape, against his will, needs to start a garden and turns out to be absolutely pants with plants. Things go (humourously wrong); Hagrid comes to the rescue. I really like the idea of a Snape-Hagrid fic. And I really like Hagrid in this. Snape, well, I never like Snape. But this is sweet.

After the Rain by Bat Bludger. Scenes from Dumbledore and Sirius's relationship through the years, including some conversation about magical theory when Sirius was young. Aside from the title throwing me off a bit, this was nice. There ought to be more fic that explores the relationship between Dumbledore and Sirius. If I'm being honest, the writing is too "artistic" for my taste, but it is awfully pretty.

The Opposite of Ghostly by Fanny Netherway. Below the Ministry and the Mysteries, there are two chambers: a crypt and a laboratory. And two proud, pureblood Hufflepuff boys. A comparison between Barty Crouch, Jr. and Ernie Macmillan. I haven't had a chance to read this one yet, but it looks interesting.

Neville's Ark by Magenta Mucklerooney. Haven't read it yet, but Snape and Neville post-war gen. (What's with all the Snape? Can't I escape him? :) )

The Cultivation of Lilacs by Regina Twonkle. After the war, Harry starts a career as a professor at Hogwarts. When Remus returns to the castle as well, Harry learns that he doesn't know everything he should about Remus' past. Very nice Remus and Harry fic, with bits about Neville and with Hermione and Ron. This is one of my favorites so far. I like Remus and Harry (non-shippy) fic. And no Snape! :)

Lullaby by Zipporah Zilberschlag. The words inside his head turned and twisted and created ghastly images that glided across his vision, like Dementors. Ron is captured and Peter is interrogating him. Love Ron in this, Peter is definitely movie!Peter. But I really would love to see more fic with Ron and Peter, because I love the concept of Peter having messed with Ron's (or Percy's) head, or Peter truly caring about either of them. One day I want to write "Cast Away" or "A Little Drop of Poison", which is how Peter felt about Percy all those years (devotion, until Percy gave him to Ron because he got a new owl). On a similar note, why doesn't anyone ever jump on the song "A Little Drop of Poison" for Peter? I mean, come on- the lyrics are like, WRITTEN for him. Well a rat always knows when it's in with weasels/Hair, you lose a little every day. Seriously.

Let the Water Hold You Down by Xandra Periwinkle. What if Peter was a loyal Death Eater, but found a way to protect James and Lily from being hunted by Voldemort? When Peter sees to it that Harry Potter is born on July 15, 1980, the world changes. AU. [livejournal.com profile] theregoesyamum, wasn't it you that said you wanted to see more fic inspired or named from Talking Heads? Or was that someone else?

Marked, by Tessa Tiddles. : In the process of making peace with Lily, Sirius learns about communism. Communism ensues. Rather interesting combination of cute and disturbing. Amusingly, this is the second Communist Sirius I've seen. Wonder if someone's been reading Correspondence Course?

Special by Miss Agnes Ague. Young Tom and the two little dears in that nasty old cave. Creepy and brilliant characterization of young Tom Riddle- the kind of thing that makes you wonder if JKR decided to play in [livejournal.com profile] reversathon.

The Whipping Post by Dolly Pancakes. In the bowels of the public service, Severus Snape is vindictively punished by the embittered Senior Undersecretary. Have not read it yet.

Welsh Greens by Rowena Weasell. Harry, Ron, and Hermione pull a fast one on Tonks and she finds herself in Romania, taking up a life of crime. Fortunately, she has Charlie Weasley to help. Dude, you know I'm all over this one! Just read the summary! It was awesome, read the fic.

Velocity of Motion by Regina Twonkle. Three times Remus Lupin meets Fenrir Greyback, and twice when he doesn't, though his presence is pervasive all the same. Haven't read it yet, but really want to.

An Unequal Magic by Crispin Coote. When Petunia grudgingly offers Snape sanctuary, the pair discover that they have certain things in common. Haven't read it yet, but looking forward to it, even if it does have Snape. It sounds interesting.

Remus/Sirius

In Pursuit of Knowledge by Muggleworthy Excuse. Sirius has been working on a potion for a prank, but while testing it on himself, the events take a rather unexpected route. Entertaining and cute, and not cliched. Remus has a backbone!

Faithless by Alphonsia Thang. Can you find a friend more faithful than a brother? Haven't read this one through yet.

Why, In All This Anger by Pergola Inchfyngre. No summary, and I haven't read it yet. Has Sirius/Regulus, so I may or may not.

Cooking With Love by Ecstasia High. Cooking is love. Sirius learning to cook- which you know is a great topic. Wonderfully characterized Sirius, with all his restrained anger and depression and fighting spirit- this fic shows just why Sirius has such a following. And Sirius is actually right in an argument with Remus. It's sad that that's so rare that I have to note it, but it is.

Remus Lupin's Unofficial List of Things by Emmeline Dingleberry. No summary. I didn't really like Remus in this one, to be honest- it just wasn't how I see him. It could be how he was- we have so little information and all that. It just jarred with my mental image. Plus (and this is a minor thing but it drove me nuts), the use of the word "little" in conjunction with Remus was very distracting. I picture Remus as an utterly average looking man on first sight in terms of height and looks (obviously he's too skinny). The descriptors kind of put me off. Bizarre, no? It's not at all a bad fic, and it's definitely not typical R/S, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

The Games People Play (in the middle of the night) by Neph Caldecotte. All is not fair in love and war. I went into this one skeptical because of the request and warnings, but read it anyway and was really glad I did. There's a lot of plot, a lot of James-Sirius friendship, Peter is at least mentioned kindly, and good characterization. But what really makes this one stand out is that the author captures the feeling of a relationship ending before the two parties can admit it perfectly. It hurts, but that's because it's done well.

But Even Jesters Cry by Amanita Zorg. Remus tries to coax Sirius back to the land of the living the only way he knows how -- through pranks. Happy OotP Remus/Sirius is always a good thing. And the author used a Marillion quote as the title! YAY!

Other pairings

Following Orders by Theobald Theobaldus. Bill/Kingsley. Bill's mission is to recruit Kingsley Shacklebolt for the Order of the Phoenix. It proves to be a most difficult task– with unexpected results. This one IS a rec, because it's worth reading for the ending alone. And I shall say no more about it, because to say much ruins it.

Cartography for the Recently Bereaved by Eberhard Crumb. No summary, but it's Tonks trying to convince Charlie to return home after the war. Tonks/Charlie, with past Tonks/Remus and Remus/Charlie. It's no secret I don't like Tonks/Remus, because of how it came about in canon, but also because I love Tonks and I don't think Remus is a good match for her. I've always liked the concept of Tonks/Charlie, even though we rarely see Charlie on the page. I'm pretty sure this is one of the authors I requested when I put in my request, and although this fic isn't written for me, it met my request perfectly. A Tonks who's over Remus but without Tonks-bashing, friendship and some travel with Charlie, and things coming around so they get together. Great Charlie, too. I like this one.

Aside from the title throwing me off a bit...

Heh. I named myself after another fanfic of the same title by accident (I was slightly drunk when I registered at FA and picked the first phrase starting with A that popped into my head, not realizing that the reason why it was stuck in my head was that it was the title of somebody else's humongously long WIP, which I still haven't read), so it's nice to see things come full circle. Sort of.

Hehe. That is rather entertaining! Out of curiousity (because this sort of thing interests me), would you change it if you could? (I'd change mine, as I've since learned that the first mark of a bad author is including a character's name in your username.)

That's actually one of the reasons why I changed my first pen name -- I thought "Lady deMimsy" made me sound too much like a fangirl, although at least being a Nearly Headless Nick fangirl is somewhat original. Also, I figured I'd get more readers at FA if I picked something that started with A, as they alphabetize the list of newly uploaded fics by author's name.

No, I probably wouldn't change it again; I've gotten used to this one.

I read Cooking With Love this morning and it is just fantastic. You'll really like it. Let the Water Hold You Down is also excellent (though considerably less cheerful) and one of the few Peter-centric stories I've read that actually makes me think, 'yup, I can really see him doing that' as opposed to being a bit irritated.

And I'm meant to be pinch-hitting for [livejournal.com profile] reversathon right now, not sitting around reading all of it. Damn.

Oooh, sounds good :) Especially Cooking With Love- I could use something a bit cheerful. (I've read Let the Water Hold You Down as well, which is why I could use something cheerful!)

I'll be really interested to see who's written what. (Also makes me a bit nervous about posting commentary on fics right now, but oh well!)

Yeah, not knowing who wrote what is making me insanely curious, especially since I'm almost certain that I must know the person wrote Cooking With Love. Not so sure about any of the others. Will be quite exciting when all is revealed!

My dear, considering what pairing I'm writing as for usual, then no, you certainly don't know me. :) But, like you, I love Sirius to pieces.
