More Commentary on Spoiler Validity
Jul. 12th, 2005 06:28 pmWarning: I DO discuss the content of the spoilers.
Yeah, you know what? Aside from my "coping with Lupin/Tonks" therapy here (and I think I pissed off a R/T shipper at FAP, who promptly responded to my "why I don't care for Lupin/Tonks" post with "why Remus and Sirius don't make a good couple." All the same arguments, although I really respect her honestly on preferring Lupin/Tonks.), I've just decided that spoilers are all crap.
ignipes, stop laughing at me and saying I told you so. I know you are.
Yeah. I've known it anyway. Well, I don't KNOW it. I do think some of these spoilers could be right. But as I said in my last spoiler post? I think some of them could be gotten to by good guesswork. Except for Bill the Werewolf (which I've now seen a conflicting spoiler on) and Draco joining the DA and being kidnapped (but I don't read much about Draco), I haven't seen a single spoiler that hasn't been a fan speculation.
Dumbledore dying. Krum being the DADA prof. Bill and Fleur getting married. Ron/Hermione. NO Ron/Hermione. Harry/Ginny. NO Harry/Ginny. Harry getting involved in the Dark Arts. Seamus the Half-Blood Prince. Snape the Half-Blood Prince.
Every single one of those has been a "spoiler", and how many of them
1.) contradict
or
2.) have been seen in countless places as theories?
Sure, I'm preaching to the choir. But I'm also reviewing a particularly boring paper and needing to feel like life has some meaning, because lipases SUCK.
So without further ado, a Lissa "spoiler" for every paragraph I read and comment on. (Yes, the paper sucks that badly. And no, I have absolutely NO access to the books.)
1.) Amos Diggory will be the new Minister of Magic. I'm very fond of this theory, because I think he'd be a Crouch-type. Not too helpful, but not too hindering either. Actually, he kind of reminds me of Bush, but let's not go there, shall we?
2.) The silver hand of Peter Pettigrew's cannot Transfigure. Therefore, Peter cannot Transfigure into a rat. The loss of his Animagus form keeps him even more tightly bound to Voldemort. (I'm very proud of that theory, by the way.)
3.) The popular concensous among the spoilers is that the DADA prof is not a new character for once. (I still like my Mr. Lupin, Sr. theory, but I've always admitted that was a long-shot.) But I like Bill Weasley. I think he'd make a good DADA prof. After all, he's a curse-breaker, member of the Order, and former Head Boy. And as a newlywed (because I still like the Bill-Fleur wedding as the reason for Harry to leave Privet Drive), he doesn't really want to travel much.
4.) We will see TONS of history (relatively speaking) in this book, including much Founder-age. It's about time. (Oh, thank God. I'm almost done this wretched paper.)
5.) Ron's friendship with Harry is one of the pivotal defining characteristics about him, and will have the potential to come between Harry and Mrs. Weasley, because Ron is willing to take risks for Harry that Mrs. Weasley doesn't want him to take.
6.) Screw shipping. There will be no shipping in this book. Well, all right. There will be some. But not nearly as much as fandom likes to believe.
Ah, screw it all. It's almost 7:00. I'm done reading this. I'm going home.

Date: 2005-07-12 11:01 pm (UTC)Besides, as much as I don't LIKE Lupin/Tonks, it's certainly more plausible canonically than Snarry, H/D, or any number of the other ships out there.
I like the idea of Amelia Bones to be the Minister of Magic after the war is over and MoM2 is killed (because I think they will be). But yeah- I'd like to see more Hufflepuff pride, too :)

Date: 2005-07-13 06:42 am (UTC)Hufflepuff bashing is one of the things I don't understand. OK they're never going to be as flashy as the other houses, but I sure wouldn't want to piss one of the off as I'd piss the whole bloody house. That sticking together has a lot going for it.

Date: 2005-07-13 05:45 pm (UTC)Slytherin was seen as a strong hierachy and where you stood in said hieachy would probably depend on who your family were, who your friends were and then how good you wee at certain things. But no matter what, you didn't air your dirty washing in public. No matter what the internal politics were, you put on a united front.
Ravenclaws are more independant. You had your cliques and it doesn't seem to be the pressure of keeping up the Ravenclaw name. They seem happy in their own skins.
Hufflepuffs are run on a very egilatrian manner. It's all about playingthe game and not so much about the glory. They're steady and they stick together, so that is why it's a good idea to have a few Hufflepuffs on your side. Once you have a few, you stand a chgance of winning a vast majority of them over.
