Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] marauderthesn who Gacked from rynne: Take the one ship in this fandom [HP] you really can't stand (if there's more than one, pick the one you like least), and post in your journal what is good about that ship. No sarcasm allowed--be sincere, though you don't have to pretend you don't like your favorite ship. Just try to find something you like about that ship you hate.

Skipping over the adult/student pairings, because those really do squick me:

Remus/Tonks

Okay, okay, I will admit it. Remus/Tonks is NOT an implausible ship. In fact, it's rather plausible in terms of age, availablity, and yes, even personality to an extent. It WOULD be nice to see Remus have some happiness, and yeah- the guy is NOT a stodgy old codger. He could totally handle a girl with spirit. In fact, Remus NEEDS someone with spirit because he has plenty of it- control and lack of spirit are not necessarily synonyms. Tonks would benefit from having someone like Remus.

Best thing about this ship: A while back I recced a fic called Changes. I LOVED this fic, and you know, even though I prefer Remus with Sirius, I liked the author's reasoning for why Remus would be good for Tonks: his -understanding- of her and the fact that Remus does seem much more oriented on the inside than the outside.

I love Tonks. I love Remus. As of right now I don't think they're plausible, BUT (and this is a big but), I don't think it would require much effort on JKR's part to change that. I really don't. So if she wrote this ship- and wrote it well enough (doesn't have to be big, I mean, look at Faramir/Eowyn)- I would accept it and accept it well.

So there you go [livejournal.com profile] rynne. A little ship love!

Thanks so much for the pimpage- you made my day. I'm sort of getting frustrated with not quite getting noticed some days, and I'm really grateful :) I read the thread and it was really flattering (although I do agree with the one poster who said the boys occasionally get too emotional- there's a few Sirius/Remus scenes I felt went that way. (Not so much with Peter and James.))

TOTALLY understand about why you haven't gone near Accidentally In Love, though. I've gotten burnt by WIPs before too, and although I intend to finish this and know -exactly- how it ends, you know how that goes. :P I was very close to thinking about stopping after Part 3 because it was a truly good stopping point, but... But on the other hand, I really want it done before HBP comes out!

And yeah, I'm hoping JKR herself will write that happy ending for Remus. If she doesn't kill him off, that is.....

*sigh*

I hear you about the lack of pimpage though, I'm reading various fics that are rec'd and they all seem to be NC-17, incest/chan pairings. There's even a writer that I liked that's gone off into that direction.

Now, I don't mind deep, dark complex fics, but I can't see why deep and dark fics need to be centred around the skanky side of sex. *sigh* But then, in a fandom where (it seems) that rape is considered gen if there is no titalling or obvious pairings, I really shouldn't ask, it seems.

I mean, there's a good fanfic writer called [livejournal.com profile] paulamcg (I think or it is [livejournal.com profile] paulamg that writes a Sirius/Remus in first person (Sirius), and her writing is very quiet and with purpose, but no slash, but she doesn't get the attention that she deserves.

*sigh*

Keep on writing for us that appreciate the complex emotions without the paint-by-numbers kink.

I should really start to plug [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes but I'm her beta reader, wouldn't that be considered crass?

Argh. I typed a reply to this yesterday, but it got eaten.

I hear you on the NC-17 thing. I like a good PWP as much as anyone, but I also really like a plot for a fic. And there's so much plotty stuff you can do with these two- so much that goes beyond how they got together or whatever....

I have read [livejournal.com profile] paulamcg's stuff, and I agree that it doesn't get the attention that it deserves. And the cynic in me says it's because her writing is subtle and mature and doesn't focus on romance much, much less sex. I've LOVED some of her stuff, but I miss the sharp, self-depricating humor Sirius had in the first few stories sorely. But regardless, I really respect her writing.

I've been thinking about putting together a rec list of stories that have plots, and are NOT classics. Not that the classics aren't good, but I think there's a lot of phenomenal writers out there that don't get the read time that they should.

Rec for you: have you read Sirius Has a Girlfriend (http://www.livejournal.com/users/riko/35634.html), by riko? It would be right up your alley- a lot of the focus is actually on Sirius having to track Regulus. It's a gorgeous story, and one of my favorites.

As for plugging [livejournal.com profile] topaz_eyes, I don't think it's crass. I only beta for people I'd plug for, so....

Sorry about the whinge there. Just get frustrated some days!

Yeah, I read that story

and did that whole comment thing. It was lush and atmospheric and oh so bittersweet.

Do that - the recs thing. I'll chip in a story or two. I mean, I'm finding that my tastes in stories is changing, and I'm becoming rather ...disturbed with the incest/chan/non-con offerings pushed at me in the guise of 'hot fic'

Then, this whole skyhawke net archives thing on LJ isn't helping matters. The thing is, technology is racing ahead of legislation, and when the latter catches up with the former, people are going to have to take responsibility for what they write, and in Europe (and Australia) right now, this is a big deal, and I can't see why writers aren't being more sensitive the matters at hand.

But this is a post for my journal...

btw

how did you get tinaling's permission to use her work as your icons? I have thought of asking various artists for permission to do so, but I've never really had the guts to, because quite a few of them seem to be protective of their work (and that's not a bad thing).

I really like her take on the Marauders. Especially Sirius and James!

I do hope she starts drawing again when the new book comes out!

I know- I adore her stuff. I love her Remus, too, but my favorite of hers is Peter.

She's actually made icons that you're free to use as long as you don't change them. I have absolutely NO problem with her getting the credit she deserves, so I took her up on it and swiped a few, and put the credit in my user info for good measure. Her and Tealin- I love both of their stuff.

And she even draws Peter! (Just using his icon because I like Peter. At least in my world, I like Peter!)

But yeah- if you can send me a few stories, please do. I'm rapidly getting annoyed with the NC-17 thing too. I mean, I LIKE it (some of it), but that's not always what I want. ::Sigh:: I really ought to find out more about the Skyhawke thing. I don't have an archive there, so I haven't paid much attention.

Heh. Sorry- wasn't trying to whinge. What's really frustrating to me is I know I'm not the only one with this problem. There are a lot of good writers out there that just can't quite break in.

Friend away!

Well, we will just just have to pimp away. Maybe we should bribe people to apply to be coders and then get them to tell us about new fics goingg up :D

Heh. Well, I'm starting a new rec list. Lesser known authors with plots. (Or lesser known plots of BNFs- it's really, really frustrating when you have a story you LOVE that doesn't get the attention of something you're not as fond of!) Granted, I don't have a huge distribution, but hey! Reccing is good anyway :)
